problems opening ashtray

Post by gadgetJunky72 » Mon Jul 09, 2012 5:24 pm

Hi,

I find that i need to press on the ashtray quite hard and repeatedly before it opens. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think i could get it sorted under warranty ('59 plate with 6,000 miles)?

Thanks

Pav

mine is working fine, press it ones lightly and it opens. it's a 3 year warranty so they should fix it.

I had mine replaced for just the same reason.. Which was great as there was a nick out of the trim and the whole thing had to be replaced, yay.

Took the car to Hexagon in Kentish Town. They couldn't replicate the problem (it is intermittent to be fair) so didn't do anything about it.

They did however charge me £170 to re-initialise my windows to fix a problem with the drivers window bouncing when closing all 4 windows. Worth getting a car with warranty?...NOT!!

Why isn't that on warranty?

No idea. I made a big fuss, but they wouldn't budge saying that something must have knocked the window as their tests identified that "the anti-trap had been triggered and required a re-initialisation".

At £200 an hour i think i was lucky to get away with the bill that i did.

Hang on....so if the anti-trap gets triggered, its nearly £200 to reset? I thought all it did was stop the window going up etc.

Nah, that sounds wrong to me. ok, it might've been tripped, but should it not reset itself?

I made exactly the same argument and still got slapped with the invoice.

If you have the dancing windows you can set them yourself, common problem with frameless doors :)

Mines done it a few times and I just reset them or is it a different problem?

I'd drop BMW uk customer services an email and check on this, sounds a bit rum to me.

Isn't it where you raise the windows and keep holding the button in the up position for several seconds (how long?) afterwards? Tim told me this when I got my car.

If thats it, I can come round and do it for you, for £100 +KAT (Kev's Added Tax) :D
