Went over a speed bump and heard a grinding noise

Post by Dexter_Morgan » Sun Oct 23, 2011 10:06 pm

I had a friend in the car who’s a big lad. I went over a speed bump similar to the one pictured but taller. I heard a grinding/scraping noise from the underside of the car and he said he felt it in the passenger foot well. Nothing clunked or sounded like it caught but I was wondering what this may have done. I had a look but couldn’t see anything. I may have to get it on a ramp to have a better look.

May just be the 'rubber skirt' under the front bumper - mine catches every time I reverse out of my drive way.

+1

I catch mine over silly speed bumps more abrupt than those shown - like the ones in multi-storey car parks

no harm ever done though :D

Sweet! I am still tempted to ramp it at some point just to be sure. I wouldn't like any metal to have been scraped and exposed under the car. But I'm sure if it was that serious I would really know about it. I was wondering if putting it in sport mode would firm the suspension up so it was less likely to sink down for a given weight. Would that be the case?
