Stone chip wear by rear tire
I've noticed just in front of my rear tires by the lower skirt that there's a substantial amount of small stone chip wear, almost like someone lightly sandblasted the area. I'm guessing the stones and road dirt are being thrown up by the front tires. I don't have mud flaps and would prefer not to put them on. Plus I'm not sure they would fix the problem. But I have seen some cars (specifically Porsche Boxster/Caymans) put a clear plastic protectant directly over the paint, like a clear bra some people put on their front bumpers and partially on their hoods (bonnets).
Has anyone put this type of protection on their E89 Z4s?
If so, how much did it cost and does it look okay?
Thanks,
Michael

Any chance you'd be able to post a photo or two? Is the brand name of the stuff you used called "Stone Guard"? I did an eBay search for "Stone Guard" and got a billion hits but nothing really matching what I need. What did you use for an eBay search?VvrooomM wrote:I've done it on my mcoupe, stone guard, cut to size. eBay £6 ish
Thanks for the feedback.

3M does have a product that covers the entire rocker panel. Found it at:

Pretty pricey though. I was hoping to just get something for just the back part of the panel.

Buying by the foot is probably a better way to go if you don't mind cutting it yourself. Sure would save a bunch of money compared to buying the precut pieces.

masking taped a piece of paper to area and then used pencil side on to shade the edges for stencil and then cut film to shape

Also search for "Ventureshield" - I use it on my mountainbike and would've used it on the car, but my bits that'd need protecting are already stonechipped so not much point unless I get bits resprayed.
I find Ventureshield more flexible than cheaper stuff so easier to fit to curved surfaces.
