Wheel bearing

Looks like wheel bearing gone bad.
Over last few years on really hot days, like today car dash said 27 degrees, going over speed humps just before home, i would hear a metallic clunk. Warm days slight noise and none cold.
So today when i parked up, grabbed the top of left tyre and pulled back and fourth. There feels to be slight movement.
Placing a finger between brake disc and caliper there was definite movement.
Seems like the hot day and slow crawling traffic has highlighted the problem.
At 92k miles i don't mind replacing both wheel bearings. Have ordered some FAG kits.
See if that cures problem.

Not had any car reaching 100k without replacing wheel bearings and ball joints.

Really! I cant remember changing a wheel bearing on any car i have owned since the 1990's and some of them did over 250k!!!!

Peugeot 106 wheel bearings, ball joints on MGTF at 44k miles. Some last some don't.

I think the noises i hear are just dry rubber mounts.

Now the bearings have arrived, i am surprised they don't have any teeth on them for the dynamic stability control.
I have yet to look at wheel, but the sensor seems to fit inside the bearing mounting on the end of the shock..

So is there something inside the bearing that triggers the dsc sensor.
I know when ever i check the codes there is always a dsc fault code, yet all seems to work ok.
I assume there is a trigger behind this plate.

Maybe the inside face of the hub/bearing carrier has notches machined into it? I’ve not heard of bearings being used for the abs

No smooth diameters, that is why i was surprised. I see the earlier Z4's had teeth, which of course can rust.

Well learn something every day. There is a ring encoder in the bearing end seal.
I wonder if my cars worn bearing is throwing the dsc code.
Could be good indicator of bearing problem, not dsc.

Page 28 looks like being check with iron fillings for the sensor side.

Ran obd check, sure enough the DSC code is there, again.
Can't wait to change bearing see what effect it has.

That’s the first I’ve heard of this, even more important to not install the bearings back to front!

Well replaced wheel bearings.
Pulled on wheel, all nice and tight.
Took it for a drive all fine.
Parked up, grabbed wheel.........still moves

Thinking it must be one of the tie rods.

Still at 93k i don't mind replacing bearings, done at my convenience.

I had a wheel bearing go on my 2005 320cd MSport Coupe in under 2 years and 20k. Uncommon I guess, but like everything it can and does happen.

Tools needed in picture, M18 socket for caliper and bearing mount bolts.
Remove caliper and disc (M5? allen key), then bolts can be got at without any further dismantling.
I needed to use the blow lamp to expand the metal to loosen bolts, they are tight.
Best to remove the dsc sensor first.
Also, remove the two fwd bolts first, then the rears, otherwise you get the M18 socket trapped behind the shock absorber.
A lot of twisting the steering left and right to get at the bolts.
