Windshield cracked

Post by flybobbie » Tue May 04, 2021 3:57 pm

So windshield cracked today. Need to get in touch with insurance.
Any advice, will they just recommend a local fitter, don't want some cheap screen fitted, don't want side of the road job.
What's the best company. Do they fit oem or aftermarket.
I will take apart as much trim before it's fitted, to make sure no wires are damaged.
Thanks for any advice.

Sorry to hear that Fred ! My son had Auto Windscreens (via his insurance) come to the house about 18 months ago to replace a screen in a new Mazda MX5, they parked their van alongside it on our drive and covered the whole car with an awning attached to their vehicle and did a first class job I have to say, good luck

I'd leave the whole job to the fitter then if it goes wrong you have some recourse to get it put right.

Well someone on the forum had wires cut through. Don't want that hassle.

Been looking forward to new shield, the current looks like a star field when the light is just right.
Never seen like it before.

I had Auto windscreens do mine about a year ago....

Took a few days to get the correct OE windscreen..

The manager came out to fit it at my house.

He clearly knew about the rain sensor / GPS aerial etc.

He was meticulous and afaik it was a perfect job.

Stated that they had problems with pups making a cack handed job hence his personal appearance.. :tumbleweed:

Paid the excess as per insurance cover..happy bunny..

Was unlucky enough to need two new screens in 6 months on the 335d a couple of years back.
Auto Windscreens through my insurers. Easy to book online and they did a perfect job considering all the gadgetry up around the mirror area.
I'd agree too, as previously said, leave them to do it all. If you took a few bits off and then there was a problem, even with something you'd not touched, you've left them a loophole to wriggle through.
HQ of 'Norfolk Zed Rescue'.
Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

Job done, it was Autoglaze through eSure.

Not original screen but fitted now with larger gap at bottom of screen pillars than at the top.
Either the screen the wrong shape or too much sealant holding screen off.
Now more of a gap for seeds and twigs to sit in.
These screens always look like some window trim is missing.

My old TR7 had some nice 70's chrome trim, with self tinting Sundim glass.

Slightly off topic but around three years ago my previous Zed was subject to a hit and run in a car park, Auto windscreens came to the house and erected a tent around the vehicle and repaired the damage for £250. A superb service and repair !

We had three owners cars done same time to remove dents in cars. My dent removed for £30.
Took the guy about 5 minutes to sort it.
Right on the edge the forward edge of passenger door.
In West Mids, think he called himself DentDevil.
