Ah ok thank you, I thought I had fitted it correctly, it’s a sponge like seal which wedges into the hole so not the snap-fit like the others.

So update after some more rain today. Drove car in short route and hardly any water on the tissue this time when I got back it hammered down with rain for a couple of hours. Just checked (now rain has stopped) no signs of any leaks, the main boot seal with the glue issues I cannot see or feel any water anywhere so that seems to be ok at the moment, will continue to check and of course after a decent drive in the rain.
Now I did find a small pool of water here and you can see a little corrosion in this area

I've learnt something, that black thing should have a cap on it, mine hasn't.

Just checked mine and there’s definitely no gap, looks like a soft rubber/foam piece that’s there.

I'd say, that is ok on your car.
Have a look at the following example: There are indeed constructive gaps.

Ah ok thanks, I messed up by not taking good enough before photos (or just doing one at a time) but I think I have this right...
Massive downpour of rain yesterday, checked last night an no signs of any leaks - will check again this morning but looks like no water getting in when stationary. Will continue checking the “frame-drain” over next week or two.
When I found a little water (most recent photo) I have put some tissue to see if perhaps it’s coming up through the grommet.

Ok folks - cover arrived today from Specialised Covers. Another layer in the strategy to ensure I’m keeping water out but more importantly for me are the gazzilion pieces of tree and leaves the car gets dumped with when it’s wet and windy.
Gotta say I’m pretty chuffed with it, perfect fit and comes with straps with covered connectors. I’m still monitoring the for any signs of water getting into the boot. Next job is to remove the main boot seal, clean up the old glue and refit with non-setting sealant. Pics will follow when time and weather line up.

Might need to trade in the Z for a boat at this rate
I had a cover like this years ago for a Lotus, this one seems a notch up so materials have improved a bit.

Boot Water Ingress - The journey of roof motors, hydro pump and seals
Hi Folks, Just an update. I am still (some weeks later) getting water out of the frame rails. The kitchen towel placed in each corner is still soaking it up. So as expected, it takes time but I'm in no major rush. I will post on here when it seems to dry up as this may help others get a feel for the timeline it takes.
Just a side note, I went to ARP Auto Rust Prevention and posted a thread here....

Boot Water Ingress - The journey of roof motors, hydro pump and seals
Hi There, thankfully after changing all the seals and eventually the water inside the frame finally stopped I had no more problems.
I also went a bit crazy and bought a new P400 X Defender (wasn’t looking but stumbled across one and loved the look and utilitarian feel. I’be had 4x4 before, including a Range Rover and always like the them. It was pretty had to find a new high spec one for sale, tried every dealership and finally one came up at the Coventry Sytner dealership.
I was going to keep the Z4 and put it into storage, maybe occasional use in the summer but eventually decided to sell it.
Absolutely loved the Z4 and I’m not sure it was the best idea to sell it really, missing it now the suns out. That said, someone else gets to enjoy it as a daily and one less thing I need to think about, but there is some regret. Hey ho…
Huge thanks to everyone in this thread, I would have lost the plot without some support.
Enjoy your Z4 ‘s and maybe I’ll end up with another, a mint Z3 wouldn’t be a miss either

Boot Water Ingress - The journey of roof motors, hydro pump and seals
Hello
I have read all the posts carefully and I have a question, if I loosen the screws at the top of the pump to freely move the roof elements - will I have to vent the pump after tightening them or do any other action to make the pump pressurized again?
As the next person I have a problem with the roof, 1 week ago the upper shell opened halfway and fell - since then the red LED has been flashing - I managed to gradually lift it to check the cables and sensors - I replaced the hall sensor in the upper shell and the upper shell is trying to break pick up but stops halfway trying to open but fails. Maybe something went wrong and is now blocking. I do not want more forceful press to panels.
Ps I replaced the transmitters on the pump with new ones, the pump does not leak anywhere and is dry - it looks like new.
