Intermittent roof problems

Post by jamesgarbett » Mon Feb 15, 2021 6:12 pm

Just wanted to check something before it goes back to the dealer for hopefully a fix

Only had my E89 a few weeks and today's weather encouraged a bit of roof down driving

Noticed that the roof was very slow and jerky to open and close - also got a few "roof operation impaired" messages and flashing red and green lights on both roof buttons

The roof did eventually open and close fully but it felt as though it took ages and something wasn't quite right

Anything obvious I can check before it goes in? The boot is empty and boot partition thing locked in place

Bumpy roads or corners can trigger warnings while the roof is being operated.

You could check the fluid level at the pump in case it’s low, but I think it’s more likely to be either a micro switch or Brocken wire where the folding roof joints are, do you know the condition or age of the battery as that can cause roof faults.

It should be stamped on one of the battery posts, week number and year, eg 06 13

If you bought the car from a dealer I’d be going back to see them.
