Hi all,
I know there have been a lot of different topics regarding water leaks on the e89 hard tops but it has got to the point whereby the roof is no longer working. (Just an annoying red flashing light on the dash).
However, Im pretty sure its down to water ingress throughout the car as where the hydraulic pump sits behind the battery there is some water. i have dried this up before and did manage to get the roof working but now the same issue has happened.
I am also having water come in around the windscreen and front windows while driving so water is also entering here somewhere.
The question is, does anyone know whether there is a manual override for this roof to be able to clean the rubbers and potentially reseat them and does anyone happen to know the most common areas for water ingress for me to investigate?
Thanks in advance

There is a manual procedure I believe... but its best to get the codes read to see why its not working first. its too complicated to be able to say just from the flashing light!
if it is just water, then the controls are in the right hand part of the boot, under a cover. Water can drop onto that and its very expensive to fix.
There's lots of microswitches too. and the salmon relays (which are an easy fix, and cheap - just search on here).

Hi, there’s no manual override for the e89 roof, it’s a dealer job with special tools to operate without the mechanism working.
It sounds as though you have multiple leaks, did you trace the original one which soaked the motor?

Hi,
thank you for your replies. Its a shame that there is no manual override for the e89 roof. Unfortunately, i am unable to lift the roof back to be able to find any evidence to why its leaking. Regarding the original leak, i did not manage to find the problem which is even more annoying.
I will keep looking to find potential leaks. Do you know if i can access the relays and microswitches while the roof is still closed?

the salmon ones you will be able to. but everything else will be much harder with it down. Id try the salmon relays as a cheap first go, but I suspect it will need to be looked at by BMW (or a specialist). I dont think they get wet though... as they are up the top of the pump.
You can try and stop the water ingress though. there are plenty of threads on here about the sealant going around the boot (on mine up around the hinges on the other thread I mentioned), plus there are some seals around the back lights and vents (I cant see you getting in there as I had to take the all the trim around them out to get to them, and with the roof down you are not going to be able to do that)

Thank you for that. i will look into seeing if the relays are still functioning and will go from there.
I have noticed the various threads regarding the water ingress so will read through some and see if I have some luck. Hopefully its a cheap fix for me

I have had a look this morning and the two vents in the boot seem to be working fine. Have accessed them and poured and jug of water down each side and no water is coming through them. Have also tested the salmon relays and they are also working fine. We have power to the hydraulic pump and connectors so think it’s down to the front micro switches

Get the car scanned & it should give you some information about the fault.TibbL wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 3:34 pm I have had a look this morning and the two vents in the boot seem to be working fine.
