retractable roof problem.

Post by Stormenson » Wed Sep 09, 2020 4:14 am

Hello to everyone.

Recently i had a a problem with my z4 roof e89 roof.

I just wanted to open it one day and i used as always the key to do so.
What happened next is that only 3 windows went down except the driver's one And then the procedure started with the back of the retractable starting going up .
I saw that the driver's window was up and i stopped pressing the key to stop the roof.
Then the roof stopped and the back went back down slowly .
I opened the door and from button i had the drivers window down.
And from then the roof is completly dead.
1)Roof is not locking back to normal position
2)All windows are down without letting me to move them up
3)The boot is not opening anymore.
4)I checked all fuses etc but everything is fine
5) When i press the roof buttons the are turning green but nothing happens.
6)I get the gong sound that roof is open

everything about the roof is stock inever used retrofit software etc

hi,

it is never a software issue unfortunately

first charge your battery fully

if old, replace it

see if the roof works again

read out the fault codes with a scanner and post it here

you can still charge it from the front (don't charge the battery directly in the back) and see

yep, it is possible to mount a bowden cable on the release mechanism and lead it to a place where you can reach it and pull to open the trunk, as it is on the US models

update.
I went the car to one of the official bmw dealers here in athens and they told me that the drivers window lost its original position . So the car computer couldnt read if its up or down.

they trimmed the window via the computer and everything is fine.

it had nothing to do with the hardtop. it was window problem . they said its possible that i will need to change the window mechanism if this happens again.

they charged less than 30 euro
