Rough idle at first start-up
Hi all!
When I start up my 2014 28i automatic, I reverse it out of the garage on a slightly decline driveway. (Reverse out, put it in Park, get out, close and lock garage, get in car) For approximately 20 seconds the idle is going up/down and then stabilizing itself at "normal".
Before I try to find my OBD-reader....is this normal? Is this a sign of any known errors coming my way?
Will it help if I change my stubby back to the whippy?
Best regards
Daniel

Hi it sounds unusual...of course God only knows what issues removing the whippy has caused..
Does this behaviour happen only on the first start of the day?
How many miles has the car done? Last service?
An OBD scanner is the next move..

Thank you for your replies!
Yes. This only happens at first start up.
38k miles with full service history.
I'll try to find my OBD-reader and have a look.

It’s an E89 not E85...later version of valvetronic so not sure if that fix is applicable?

Found my MaxScan GS500 from 2007.
No stored error codes.
Another question....how loud should the LPFP be? I guess that is what sounds from the tank area when unlocking the car?

Normally on N20 engined E89s the fuel pump is pretty quiet..the most obvious noise normally on start up /idle is the vacuum pump clattering for a period on start-up..

I think it sounds like a hovercraft inflating it’s skirts on start up, maybe it’s just me

Remapped, and currently “interior” rattle free.
Early midlife crises and so far loving every minute of it!

Knew a girl once who could inflate her skirts.
Didn't sound like that though!
