Reverse dip mirrors again.

Post by Loxford » Thu Aug 01, 2019 9:28 am

E89 2011.
Bought two weeks ago. Thanks to helpers here I’ve downloaded manuals and got the App.
I’ve combed the widely discussed issue in the forum but have not found the answer.

Came with both mirrors dipping when selecting reverse.
Now driver’s side doesn’t dip.
The electric adjuster works the mirror in all directions so rules out a fault with the motor.

I’ve no electric seats with the associated switches and buttons to memorise anything.
I’m confused as some say only the passenger mirror dips by default. Has a dealer program enabled this both mirrors to dip?
I’m aware of the left/right selector switch position and can still disable the passenger side dipping.

In my ignorance I have switched buttons and various things as I learn about the controls. Have I inadvertently changed something? A memory button?
I don’t know how to save settings to the key fob. Am I correct, that is done automatically when I remove it from the dash and leave the vehicle?
Thx
G

Are you absolutely sure both mirrors are supposed to dip? My 2012 640i had auto-dip mirrors but only on the passenger side and I thought something was up, but reading the manual it made it clear only the nearside dips on UK-spec cars

Only the passenger side dips on RHD cars.
To get the passenger side to dip the switch must be set to the drivers side as well.

Passenger side only dips, it's normal.

Thx Guys,
That's weird. Both mirrors were definitely reverse dipping when I bought it. I found it quite a useful feature.
Could it be a programmable thing?

You have a unique car..only one side ever dips..there is no system support for two dipping mirrors

Are you sure it’s not the auto dip function associated with bright lights?

Do you mean auto dim? Like the interior rear view mirror?
I understand wing mirror dimming was an option mine doesn’t come with.

Everyone confirms what you say, I can’t explain it, neither can I recreate it.
Perhaps I’m either losing my marbles or the kerb itself used to rise up when I selected reverse. :D

After further investigation I found a possible answer.
Bimmer-tech mentions programming to activate the ‘right’ mirror dip but it could be referring to continental, left hand drive.
Judging by everyone’s response I wonder if I imagined it but I’m sure that the drivers mirror tilting was the first time I realised the feature at all when I bought the car.
