Can't control A/C temp/direction

Post by SamFletch89 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 7:02 pm

Good Evening all,

I was wondering if anyone has had to overcome any air conditioning faults with their E89 and could perhaps point me in the right direction.

The issue I'm having is that hot air is continually blowing out of the dashboard windscreen vents at maximum temperature.

I can control the fan speed with the centre console controls, but not the air temp nor which vents the air flow is directed out from. It always remains the same despite what is illuminated on the control panel.

I have tried all combinations of open closed vents, circulation, hot/cold etc and even disconnected the battery for a while as an attempt to reset any air con settings which may be stored.

This issue arose after installing the Android 10.5 touch screen system, all cabling seems fine and I've even removed said system to see if that was causing any problems. Safe to say, the issue still remains..

The air con once randomly decided to work properly this past week, but after restarting the engine is back to it's old tricks.

Any advice or assistance is much appreciated!!

Also, sincere apologies for begging for help on my first post!!! :tumbleweed:

Have you tried moving the temp control under these vents as well?
These seem to work almost independent to the rest of the aircon.

Hi Nictrix,

Thanks for the reply. Sadly, I have, and to no avail.

Even when the fans are turned off hot air is trickling into the cabin through the dashboard windscreen vents at max temp.

Makes even short journeys very uncomfortable after a while! Anything longer than about 20 minutes and I have to put the window down to cool the cabin. :-(

Is there settings in the idrive for temperature?
I know you have changed the idrive but is there still settings somewhere in the new system.
In my X6 there are settings for the temperature that I only found because one side of the cars top vents were warmer than the other.
In the settings the temp for one side was higher than the other.

So, I've basically got the poverty spec 23i without idrive or any of that fun stuff.

The android system I ordered came with an idrive controller however the screw mounts didn't match up to the holes where it should sit so never got installed.

I don't have the android system installed anymore until I can figure out this problem. I did look through the settings while it was connected, but it did not give any options for A/C control.

I thought random AC was another indication of a dodgy battery.
How old is the vehicle, might pay to get the battery checked out.

Flybobbie, thanks for the tip.

Its 2009, 40,000 miles.

May have to get it checked, like you say.
