Cruise control retrofit problem

Hello all,

I bought the pictured part of Ebay for £100, after reading something on here and elsewhere suggesting e90 part was fine. The seller also stated would be compatible with my 2010 23i.

On fitting it, it would not code successfully though. The place tried a few times, resetting and updating various parts but no luck.

He called BMW who did I needed to get part number 61319123049, but when I type this in the Ebay I get the very same part from the same seller!

I do have the smarttop module installed and running, but didn’t think that was relevant as the engine software coding was done no problems without disconnecting it.

Just a bit sad that I spent 2 hours and £120 at the garage, as well as the £99 on the part and still no cruise control.

Any advice out there?

Hello,

I'm assuming you didn't code it yourself, so the person who has tried to code it, have they coded before, do they know what they are doing (no offence, just a genuine question).

That part, being from an e90 will fit and as long as it's not a faulty item will work ok on the e89. If the coding is done properly then there shouldn't be any issues, so;
1) faulty item
2) faulty coding

My money is on a faulty item.
When you say it won't code are all of the fault lights on the dash going out (DSC & Tyre indications)?
Is it going through the coding or is it failing at a certain point and if so at what point?

I may be able to help you.

Yes it is a reputable BMW specialist in MK (sensible question, no offence taken) and definitely not me!

They said it came up with an error message and did not complete the coding. I’m unsure about any lights on the dash - that wasn’t mentioned but I also didn’t ask.

In that case I'd suggest it's a faulty set of stalks

Oh stuff and bother. Seller won’t refund.

Any recommendations of reputable parts people other than BMW (from them it’s £400+!)

If you purchased through eBay you should be able to get your money back after opening a case with them

They can't refuse a refund if is faulty.

RMS,
And when you get your money back take a look at this one as it's just the same but a lot cheaper.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E90-E92- ... 3861982823

If you want any further advise or info on this particular subject just ask away and I'll see what I can do.

As you've paid the garage £120 will they honour the money you've paid and not charge you again?

Was just thinking on this point - the indicator and wiper stalk worked fine - just not the cruise control. Does that rule out the unit being faulty?

Faulty hardware wouldn't explain the coding failure.

Smart top does cause issues with coding but only with the roof module. I would have disabled the smart top beforehand just in case.

My money is on the garage not knowing how to code options correctly.
