If you've got the warranty you might aswell get it booked in. It doesn't sound urgent at least so phone up your dealer and get it booked for the next time they have an interesting courtesy car available .

Oil leaks should be covered under extended warranty right? I would have thought so otherwise what's the point of the warranty.... Never had an oil leak before.

Just got her back today. The "side pan" on the transmission was leaking. I guess they removed the transmission to change it. That and the valve cover gasket.step_change wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 8:41 am"red dripping" ???????2009CAZ4 wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 6:16 am I lived with a red dripping, and recently noticed a few little black drops as well. Finally put her in the shop and its $3500 USD to fix. Valve cover gasket and a trans gasket somewhere. I didn't ask too many questions cause its covered by the extended warranty.
2009 35is with 50k miles, 1,200 a year for my 2 years.
Seems there are a lot of these gasket issues with Z4's.
Warranty (by American dealer Carmax) covered $3500, I paid $500 deductible, and $550 for fluid changes.

Nope. Old jalopy cars I could not give a damn about leaked for sure. But never had an oil leak before on cars that I *do* care about for years now so goes to show how much cars have improved.
In any event, no more oil this morning either - I have kitchen towel on the floor to check. Makes me think this could maybe be a bit of oil blow-by from the turbos as mentioned earlier with me driving it "enthusiastically" the other day.... I also made a point of not using the headlight/windshield washers to eliminate it being strong solution washer fluid getting down there and "cleaning" a bit of oil off and causing me to think it is a leak. Unlikely, but a possibility.
She drives fantastically and no issues with levels etc so will keep an eye on it.

In the UK on the BMW Warranty there's no extra charge for fluid changes. (Well, there wasn't on mine, anyway.)

Sorry, I don't understand the question.
I had my 35iS DCT sump plate and valve cover gasket done under BMW extended warranty (in the UK), if that's what you mean.

Yeah, thanks, that's what I meant mate.
Still no more oil so I will continue to monitor it. TBH if there is an issue I'd rather it just leak so i can get it fixed. That said, if there isn't an issue then that's always the better option.

Couple of drops of oil on garage floor... 35is
Holy thread revival.
Was on jollies for a week and not used the car for ten days. Come back and a bit more oil on the floor, probably 20 drops leaked out over the course of that time. She's going into BMW garage end of next week to see where it is coming from. I do have the BMW Extended Warranty, thank goodness. Had I not, or they start playing silly buggers, I will take it to an Indy after the BMW diagnosis. I do hope the extended warranty covers it though considering how much it costs. TBH if this is engine oil, with a leak at that slow rate then I wouldn't bother if they didn't cover it. But a gearbox leak, where you can't add oil to top up is more serious and has to be fixed.
I know the engine has about 10 litres of oil in there so at the rate of 20 drops a week there's no big deal. How much oil volume does the DCT gearbox have in case that's the issue? I'm weary of it running dry.....? If there's a few litres then it should be OK to drive about still until next Friday when it goes in.

This issue turned out to be the oil filter housing that had to be changed. Still a couple of drops of oil from the run off from the oil soaked undertrays for the first few days afterwards that has now since stopped. It was covered by BMW extended warranty with £100 excess. Checking under the car every day until I am 100% satisfied.
