Urgently need help with roof

Post by Lindo » Sat Apr 20, 2019 6:09 pm

I'm stuck with my roof open, it will go to close but the top part of the roof won't close onto the boot and if it does the windows won't go up, I don't have a garage and with it being bank Holiday weekend I'm worried about having to leave the roof down for days, I can still hear the motor running when it gets stuck, any help would be much appreciated

What are the lights in the centre console doing?

If the motor still runs and sounds normal then there might be a little bit of play to gently help it the last little bit until you can get it sorted, I wouldn’t give it too much help though.

Excepting the roof cycle drops and raises the windows. They should still operate independety via the usual button press? :?

Have you tried pulling the manual release in the boot?

Thanks guys still stuck, the roof open light pongs flashes then it stops ponging and looks to have reset because when it does the windows then work, I then try it again and the top part gets stuck on close so then I put it down again and the windows don't work, am I right in thinking there's no manual override, I need to move to a house with a garage, proper twitchy about leaving it off for 3 days as it will probably invalidate my insurance if anything happens

I would get two of you to gently push the last section down, when it hits the limits it should lock, then let the windows go up.
Try later in the evening when it cools down.

1 Make sure car has all four wheels on flat ground. (Not two on kerb, two off, for example.)
2 Make sure both doors are shut.
3 Try to un-latch and re-latch boot cover.
4 Reach in/use a stick to move all contents to middle of boot.

After each of 1 to 4, try to raise or close roof.

Do not apply force to roof.

Well that's daft. Guess it is too heavy to shift on your tod. :(

Not going to help, but I took the hard top off my son's MK2 mx5 today. To use on sunny days, whilst my Zed is poorly. What a doodle the soft top is to open and close on those old things. :D

I realise, Lindo, that you've tried everything you, others & I know, but please triple-check that there's nothing in the boot that's outside the unfolded & clicked cover, that the cover's clicked tight shut and there's nothing caught underneath it.

My roof's 'stuck' when this has happened, the last time when there was nothing more than the flimsy 'handle' of a plastic supermarket bag where it shouldn't have been.

Hopefully Busterboo's suggestion solves the problem. I had this issue on Friday morning when we were all set to leave home for the Easter weekend. I had crammed so much stuff in the boot that the load cover sprung out midway through opening the roof, and the roof would now not respond to either button for opening or closing. The roof opening button was flashing red. I managed to drag out the bag which was causing the problem, and properly lock the load cover in place, but this made no difference, the open and close buttons were still unresponsive. After several attempts of pressing the buttons and locking and unlocking the load cover, I was still no further forward.
What worked was to lock and unlock the central locking using the key fob. This seemed to reset the "roof error message" and the roof now opened and closed absolutely fine !
