Disconnecting washer reservoir

Post by greg81 » Wed Mar 20, 2019 5:31 pm

My washers aren't working properly and looking in the reservoir I'm going to hazard a guess the filters are blocked as the water is filthy and there's a scummy growth around the water line.

I was trying to disconnect the bottle to give it a clean but had trouble undoing the pump connections. The power unplugs fine but it can't get these 2 to budge.

The later one has a sheath that slides up to reveal blue clips underneath but when it slide it up it won't pop out. Is that one a case of forcing it or is there a special technique? The smaller one is also very firm and doesn't move when i try to pull.

Any help appreciated.

Disconnecting washer reservoir

Post by Mr Tidy » Wed Mar 20, 2019 10:31 pm

It's over 2 years since I did mine, but I'm pretty sure I was able to leave the plastic part of the connector by the pump in place and remove the rubber hose that goes to the washers from the other end.

It took some wiggling to free it, but then it had probably been untouched for a decade, although it did come off in the end! If it's really stubborn you could try twisting the rubber pipe with a pair of pliers just to break the "seal".

Since then I've only used one brand of screen-wash and haven't had any problems (yet).

Hope you can get it sorted.

Thank for the reply.

Unfortunately the opposite ends of can't remove. I'm thinking that the bottom part of the pump simy pushes into the tank and i can just pull the pump our and leave it connected up in the first instance and just clean the bottle and filters. If that doesn't work I'll have better access to disconnect and go from there

I shall report back when i get a chance to dig in

All sorted! Ended up leaving the pumps connected and just pulled them out of their rubber bungs instead. As suspected the filter was blocked and the washer bottle filled with scum...

Yuk, that looks gross. :-o

Good to hear you've got them all sorted now though.

Just try to avoid mixing different brands of screen-wash and hopefully you won't need to do it again!
