Dull rear indicators

Post by greg81 » Wed Feb 06, 2019 5:43 pm

Hi all,

I noticed last night that one of my rear indicators is considerably brighter than the other. Previous experience with led strips would suggest to me maybe a loose or corroded connection?

Any other suggestions before I dive in? 2010 30i

Thanks in advance!

Took a closer look tonight and it looks bone dry however it is noticeably cloudy. It's doesn't look like a wet mist at all, more like the outside of a worn headlamp before a restoration

Yes, they get slightly mouldy and dull. I had to replace one of mine because it became intermittent. When I then put the new one it the difference between new (clean) and older (slightly dull) became blindingly obvious... Not easy to fix either in my experience so I ended up changing the other one. Plus they look so much nicer than the old ones! Paid about £130 a side from ECP.

from my experience, the led strip fails either from water or just crap quality.
mine was bone dry but end leds on strip were failing intermittently which throws a bulb code on dash.
checked connections but had to replace unit.
paid a bit more from bmw,but as they supplied and fitted, got 2yr warranty.
as these units seem prone to fail, did not want the hastle of it failing again within that time.
at least if it fails now within 2 yrs they will replace and fit.
