Connecting Sony Walkman to E89 iDrive

Post by Chris22091966 » Mon Jan 07, 2019 3:01 pm

Hi folks, looking for a leg up - I might be being a bit thick. I bought a Sony high def audio player and have tried connecting this via usb to my 66 plate E89. iDrive doesn’t seem to recognise the device, any ideas? Has anyone tried similar. I wanted to connect via cable so as to get the best audio playback.

Regards

Chris

I’ve just the USB cable, I thought the medi output would come from that. Will this still read the contents of the device - through the 3.5 headphone cable? Do you need the usb connected as well? Appreciate that may then just be performing a charging function?

If it was an iPod or iPhone then yes it'll read the device and display the info and allow you to control it via the steering wheel.
No other device will perform this, only audio that's just the way it's set up unfortunately

Hmm,

I have just got a blue tooth usb plug with aux out, So that I can access media from my phone. So not really the same scenario being applied. The Aux won't read the contents of the device, you would have to use the device to choose the folders or songs.

If you want to play you phone music (either streaming, digital radio, on-board music etc) and want control of skipping tracks etc then this device will do that (it'll even show track info if from an iPhone). The Tune2Air adaptor make the head unit think that there is an iPod installed so you get all the benefits but without the wires plugged into your phone.

I use mine all the time and love it
(Just ignore the extra cable coming out of the bottom of the console, that was an old way to get my music playing)
