Call back letters

Post by flybobbie » Fri Nov 23, 2018 11:27 am

Had one a few days ago to say the replacement battery lead are in stock and ready to be replaced at local dealer.

I don't think i will bother, had no problems in 80k miles and just an opportunity for them to F the car up.

Is this a recall letter?

If so you should get it done, manufacturers don't issue recalls unless there's a very high chance of something bad happening.

I thought this issue had led to fires? I’d be getting it done as even bmw couldn’t manage a worse scenario than a blazing car! Could they? :?

An outstanding recall shows up on a MOT check as well, which won’t help if you try to sell it. Best to get it done. If you need to leave the car with them BMW will pay for a hire car for the day for you. My wife’s 3 series was done a couple of weeks ago and I took my health check to my own indy to let them have a look and fix the couple of things that were (correctly) identified.

A recall is a safety notice because yes as pointed out in some vehicles it has caused a fire and in others the cars have cut out it or won’t start, the former is a huge concern because if you loose power on the move especially at speed, you are screwed!

I put my car in 4 times to have the work done and each time they never did it because they didn’t have the parts but never said and I always had to ask. BMW now have the parts readily available and although my E89 was sorted, I still received a letter on the 8th of November notifying me of this recall. Not so great because I hadn’t owned the car for over a month and clearly BMW’s systems aren’t quite up to speed as when I spoke with the lady at BMW she wasn’t aware I wasn’t the owner of the car any longer but could see the work had been carried out under the chassis but with a different number plate.

I checked with my local bmw stealer, and no outstanding recalls, so all good.

For quick stuff like this, I just have the work done when I need a haircut. My local BMW dealer has an in-house barber.

(That's 'barber', not scalper.)
