Have to say that the nav in my 2016 E89 isn’t bad at all, certainly no worse than the Audis of the same vintage I’ve had (Q5). Having said that, the map display colour in the Z is awful. Grey which makes reading the black text bl00dy difficult.
Other car is an Audi Q2 with the Google maps showing on the TFT display which looks amazing. Sat nav performance no better than the Z as previously stated.

Sounds like you've got Grey Map for traffic enabled - there is a different mode in the options which doesn't show the traffic as coloured lines but arrows for traffic; the advantage is that the map is more colourful :)

I never know when to trust the Nav when ‘there’s trouble ahead’... as sometimes you can see the motorway’s as clear as a bell as you’re going on a detour.

However, if there Rozzers are parked up with flashing lights then it’s a definite car park ahead, especially when going through Europe.

The Merc’s Nav also has a couple of ‘undocumented features’, always wanting to divert to Lakeside on the M25 when heading to Kent... ho hummm

Hey djstan. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll have a look for that map option. Looking at that grey map is depressing! :)

Watching this thread with interest. My satnav has not been updated since inception in 2011 but to be honest apart from the newer bypasses and random road layout changes I've not had any problems.

I would like the full postcode option though, irritating beyond belief only getting 4 digits then select road :headbang:

Question: I suspect mine will have to be updated using discs given its age, can anyone confirm?

No, you’ll be able to get a USB thingy from BMW but yes, it won’t be an online update :)

I read on a forum thread ( may have been on here) you have to put the USB in the glovebox socket. Never done it so don't know..I got Sytners to do mine when I brought it.

I have nothing but good experiences with my Sat Nav on my 2011 Z4. I find it intuitive and easy to use. Never updated it but still gets me generally to my destination.

On the 4 digit postcode note....after the first 4 digits put a space then you can input the last three digits for a full 7 digits. Works every time for me. If it jumps to street just flick back and it'll let you continue to enter more.
