Help - rough running 35is

Post by Lil_g_1234 » Thu Nov 22, 2018 10:59 am

Hi all,

I was driving the z4 yesterday, put my foot down and as he car dropped a few gear it suddenly started running very lumpy and EML light came on. Parked up, went shop. Came back out and the car was running fine, on my journey home I thought I would try and put the foot down again, on,y to be greeted with the same reaction from the car, lumpy running, EML light.

Anyone have any thoughts on diagnosis?

High pressure fuel pump. You need to read codes to make sure though as could be a coil pack but I would have a small bet on the former.

What costs were you looking at for the HPFP??
What spark plugs do you guys use? Any cold iridium ones, or just standard?
Cars booked in for Monday with a Indy near me

Also, I’ve seen online some reports BMW extended the warranty on the HPFP to 10 years or 100k. Can anyone report if this is correct and if so if they’ve had any luck with getting it fixed through bmw?

Just had a call from the Indy, misfire on 2 & 5. 5’s coil pack has some oil on it (suspected from oil being spilt while topping up, as all valve gaskets are fine, previous owner... :headbang: ). So we’re replacing both, just because Christmas is coming so the Indy could do with the extra work (I’m guessing) and new spark plugs. Fingers crossed that sorts it! I’m just relieved it’s not the injectors! Indy said my injectors are working fine, which is nice to know

Nice one, i was almost 100% sure that was all it was going to be. forums are great but tend to throw up the worst possible outcome if a fault is posted when 99% of the time its an easy fix. Its a bit like self diagnosing a medical complaint, the net says your going to die, but you just have wind and need a good fart :)

Oh and i advise doing the throttle response procedure when you get the car back, look under the heading of "Hesitation" for the how to do it.
