Heated Rear Window Elements
Hi Everyone
First post on the board.....Have been lurking for a while and have learned a great deal from all of the seasoned Z4 owners.
Fairly newish to the E89 world and have a late 2014 2.0 SDrive M Sport which we purchased in June from a BMW Main Dealer, had a couple of niggles post delivery but were fixed without question.
Now its a bit colder we have noticed that just one of the lower horizontal heating elements in the back window does not clear when its switched on. We have had cars in the past where one of the rear window elements is actually part of the radio aerial but can't see that would be much use when folded down in the boot, and then there is the separate aerial which we imagine does the lot.
We think it may be a faulty element but just wanted some opinions here first? The car is under BMW warrantee so we can have it fixed, but we would imagine it will be alot of messing with the roof if the glass has to changed.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Did this on my old motor. Thankfully not had an issue with the Zed, but same concept potentially?
To gain access you could half open the roof system?

Just my own opinion obviously but if you have the BMW Warranty then why not get it booked in anyway? At least you know then for definite whether it's faulty or not?

We sent BMW a photo of the issue and they are picking it up next week for investigation.
Will update when we have an answer.

BMW Have reported back and as we suspected might be the case it needs a complete new rear glass. The onboard diagnostics had also logged a resistance fault for the rear screen.
Lets hope it all comes back in one piece at the end of the week.

All fixed eventually. BMW had a specialist replacement glass company do the screen and it now all works fine, all the roof mechanism also had to be tested and recalibrated so the car was away for just over 3 days including the diagnosis and fix. The only thing they didn't notice was the bottom rubber seal under the window ended up with a tear an hole in it so it had to go back and have that replaced this week. Fortunately we noticed the damage when we had the Gummi Pflege out at the weekend.
Once we work out how to do it we will post some pics...
