Vibration from rear under load (E89 Z4) (SOLVED)

Post by Gabz » Thu Sep 20, 2018 1:46 pm

Hi all,

I'm writing this for anyone searching up this issue on Google in the future. I haven't found any threads on this so hope it can be of help for some folks in the future.

My car (35i DCT) gradually developed a strong vibration from the rear end under load (even light throttle) which came on around 20mph and faded by 30mph. It appeared independent of what gear I was in. I had a similar issue on my E46 330ci where the giubo / prop shaft coupling donut gave in. The vibration is strong enough to shake the entire car and create a loud noise - although initially it was less dramatic.

This time the giubo was fine but my mechanic (Birds UK) identified that the centre prop shaft mount has failed and was creating excessive movement.

Hope this helps!
