Drivers window gap

Post by gameover000 » Tue Sep 04, 2018 5:40 pm

Hey everyone, hope you can help.

Someone smashed my drivers window - seemingly by throwing a hefty stick through it but that could have been a red herring for something more forceful.

Anyhoo, the window was replaced but has a tiny gap at the top rather than pushing up into the rubber. It still does the brief drop while closing the door so it’s not just missing that.

The guy’s refitted it 6 times now stating that it literally can only fit one way and that it could be the regulator.

Obviously that sounds off to me as it was fine before the window was smashed, but realistically I don’t know if there was a more forceful attempt at jamming something in via the rubber before the window shattered ... maybe damaging the regulator?

Thoughts and ideas? The car’s safe and locked up for now at least but desperate to get this fixed!

Can't offer any useful advice (i'm sure someone will though) but I wanted to say how annoying this is....not just the hassle and expense of the repair, but to then have another issue is just bad luck.

Chav scum (might not have been chavs but in my mind it was!) :)

Unsure about e89
But the e85 has some adjustment via the rubber grommets in the bottom edge of the door

have you tried resetting the windows-

Edit - (posted the E85 reset  ) this is I believe is for the E89

1. turn the ignition on (without starting car)
2. put both windows to their fully down position (using both left and right window switches, obviously)
3. press both left and right switches down for 15 seconds
4. straight after the 15 seconds pull and hold both left and right window switches upwards to raise windows to fully closed
5. without releasing the switches, when windows are fully up count another 15 seconds
6. release switches, and reset should be complete.

It would be ironic if it was the regulator, but its possible, the other thing is find a good Indie see if he can reset it for you, I do know when my son had his Audi A4 convertible, he had a new regulator fitted and his window was shy of the top, and they had to reset it to get it to close fully

Irony central Rusty, agreed!

It’s back to the garage that I trust tomorrow to take it apart so I’m hoping they have a revelation like that too :D

That's a shame, I am clutching at straws here, but the replacement window glass, is the right size??

I’ve suggested the same thing over and over but he’s adamant it’s right. It’ll likely be off to another fitter to try their own glass next me thinks.

For anyone interested, it was the original glassier’s fault - he glued the sandwich plate that sticks through the glass to the glass itself - THAT’S where the adjustment was prevented.
