E89 Roof Question

Post by Frankie169 » Sun Sep 02, 2018 8:24 am

Don’t think it’s a problem as such, might be just the battery.

I can open the roof with my key by holding down the open button, same as many of us, however although I keep my finger on the button the roof stops half way thought the action always at the same point, I first thought it might be the battery as the car isn’t running but it still does it after a long run and the same point ,

As such this isn’t an issue as it works fine with the engine running but any feedback would be appreciated.

What if you do it from the button in the car?

Are you standing in the same spot every time (I assume you are opening on the key from outside)?

I find that if I stand close to the back of the car the roof itself seems to 'get in the way' of the signal. From the side or front appears to be better.

Works fine from the button in the car, it’s just when I use the key

If that's the case then I'd hazard a guess that it's related to the signal from the key getting to the car, rather than anything the car is (or isn't) doing...

Do you have a second key? If so, what happens when you use that one?

E89 Roof Question

I had a similar issue when my roof went completely haywire. Even after the roof motor and control module change if i used the key to open it 40% chance it got stuck. Then stopped again. Thank god everythings fixed now and hasnt failed me for months with probally over 100s of uses. It might be worth while changing the two relays, Near the hydrualics module in the boot. One relay controls one movement being bringing it down and another relay controls bringing it back up. Try atleast checking them swapping them around or replacing them with brand new ones as a precautionary there like 12 quid a pop and you can do it yourself

Couldn’t do us a favour and take a photo on the relays and the position, am going to check the movement using both the keys first then if still a problem will play with the relays

I had a similar issue for a time, didn't bother me too much as it was just coming out of winter.
However after a little scratching and trial and error I figured it out to be a battery issue. After a decent drive it would work fine, couple of days later - problem again. Just replaced battery and haven't worried since.
Mind you, it didn't always stop in the same place...
