Z4 E89 Hydraulic Roof Capacity

Post by mantis64 » Fri Aug 17, 2018 5:30 pm

I'm not sure if anyone else has asked this since I cannot find a search facility on the forum. I have a z4 and it is leaking oil from the rams on each side. I wanted to try some hydraulic stop leak oil since these rams are around £650 each! But need to know the capacity of the hydraulic system so that I can put the right amount in.

Does anyone know the capacity of the roof hydraulic system?

Not sure on capacity I’m afraid but interested to see if it works or buggers up the whole system.

A roof system replacement is around 6K, and that was before the increase in hall sensor costs.

Its quite a complex system, may be worth just getting it done properly, and buying the parts needed.

Perhaps real oem will have a part number which is the hydraulic fluid container?

I wouldnt risk it tho.

You're probably right so I'm not going to do the fluid stop leak thing. Does anyone know if I I just keep topping up the fluid its not going to harm the car?

Just fluid seeping from the middle rams when I open the roof. It all works fine but the fluid seeps from the middle rams.

I'm buying a whole second hand roof on eBay just so that I can harvest the rams I need from it.

Can someone recommend someone who can fit the rams for in and around london/kent area please?

Well I've now got a complete 2nd hand roof system. Can someone help me to take the middle rams out and then install them on my Zed and bleed the system and get it working?
