Exhaust Emmission

Post by Corrie_22 » Wed Jul 18, 2018 1:03 pm

Hi All,
Just bought my first Z4. Back in the saddle, since selling my beloved Triumph Spitfire ----many moons ago !!
Will post pics, once I get it sorted.
Took it straight back to the dealer as the Exhaust Emmission Values warning light came on after first 100 miles.
Told the cause is a duff battery and the car has gone into 'transport mode' - similar to low power mode on your phone. Need a guy with a BMW code reader - also reason a/c not working and heater blower poor.

Does anyone know of this, or am I being bullsh***ted ?

Exhaust Emmission

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear of your problem so soon after buying, but I think what they are saying is right.

I've never experienced it, but have read plenty about it on here.

Duff batteries do tend to throw up random fault codes on BMWs.

Transport Mode is how they leave the factory - it is designed to limit electric usage by not permitting high speeds on the heater/AC fan, heated rear screen, heated seats, etc.

When the dealer does the PDI they should delete it, but they frequently just disable it which leads to the issues you have.

This thread may help a bit:- viewtopic.php?f=3&t=104227&p=1520161&hi ... e#p1520161

"ducklakeview" on that thread is based in Cheshire and can delete Transport Mode for you for very reasonable cost, or he is on Facebook as "Zed Shed" with a phone number. He does all sorts of jobs on Z4s so if you need anything else done he is a useful guy to know.

If Cheshire isn't convenient try a search for members who can do coding, but avoid anyone with just Carly as I believe it can't delete Transport Mode.

Good luck getting it sorted - then you can start to enjoy it (and post photos).

Thanks for the prompt replies.
Panic over, thought I may have bought a dud.
Dealer fitted a new battery and had a specialist run diagnosics, with no issues.
a/c working, blower working, warning light gone, running like a sweety – happy boy!!
Off to the Lake District for a spin around (not over) Helvellyn. Driving down from Glasgow so, Cheshire might be a bit of a trek. Thanks anyway.
Will post pics from the Mortal Man, high above Windermere, on my return.
Great forum, learned lots from only a few days. This time next year I’ll be an expert.
:D :D :D
