Roof Leaking Hydraulic Fluid

Post by djstan » Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:39 am

It *will* fail eventually, as mine did in February. I've got mine booked in to BMW this week for a whole new harness to be fitted, at a cost of approx. £1400.

I've tried approaching specialists but they're not really interested, mainly through lack of experience of doing E89 roofs. :headbang:

Hi Cardiff here - few local companies say they have done the repair. Was yours leaking both sides like mine?

I can repair that, fraction of the cost, using new stainless braided hoses rather than the crap thermoplastic from BMW which fail due to repeated bending.

I’m pleased you’ve posted that as I’m deliberating about buying a £600 warranty next year!
I guess I would get change out of that £600 ?
Ps I’m nor asking for a quote or to hold you to even an estimate,
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

For even the most awkward hose replacement (23 & 24) yes...

That’s another nail in the potential BMW warranty coffin!

Ram Cylinder Hydraulic Leak Roof

Post by garethrw » Wed Jul 04, 2018 9:28 pm

Hi There

Two of the Ram Cylinders on my Z4 roof are leaving hydraulic fluid. There's no fault code on the motor (so that seems OK) but it looks like the two middle Ram Cylinders either side need replacing.

Has anyone had experience of this - been quote £450 per cylinder just for the part. Can they be repaired?
