Just out of interest, do you know if its got a after market module,,, smartop, reinhold etc, the reason I say this, I was talking to someone who had a smartop fitted, and was getting the same problems you are having, they unplugged the module, re programmed it to their setting, re fitted and all solved

OK.. I can take a look but I'm unsure what I would be looking for. Any pics to point me in the right direction?

Before it went wrong, did the roof operate with only one touch of the dash button or did you have to depress the button for the duration of the roof operation?

Have a look at this
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=106166
One morning my roof became intermittent, having used the roof daily up to that point.

Finally got stuck with roof stowed but boot lid open. By luck reached down to check and had a feel around the rear limit switch and a connector had come lose. The connector can easily just sit there and be intermittent as it has no locking barb or clip.

A is the socket, B the plug. B pushes into A, but can ride out and be intermittent. Seems to have inspectors paint on it.
C is the hall switch a lot have been replacing on the rear boot lift cylinder right hand side. seems like nothing to stop the plug coming out. So cable tied it.

Since we've bought the car, the roof buttons needed to be held on place until the operations had completed!

Then it sounds standard, after market roof modules change the buttons to one touch operation

Update.. car is still in the garage.

They confirm that there is a fault with a sensor or sensors. They are having to check each sensor in turn and apparently, there is a lot. Just had a call to say that the sensors cannot all be checked as the battery is not holding a sufficient charge for the checks. They have been authorised, under warranty, to fit a new battery. It arrives tomorrow!

This ring true to anyone?

If it is under warranty then why wouldn’t it be free?

My first z4 was in over 40 days while they tried to fix a leak, in the end they ordered me a new car (it was only a week old when it started). No charge to me.

Thats true, mine was back in 2012.

My point was that the warranty can cover a lot, so if the battery was diagnosed as faulty then they could change it under warranty. If it takes hours to find and fix roof problems then warranty should cover that.

They might be jazzing it up though to get more work paid for by warranty, and apart from being without his car (which is the worst thing in this weather) it shouldnt cost the op anything.

Always remember.....dealers are dodgy and dishonest liars (imo), even the ones you trust are able to be dishonest.

Update.. car is back and seems to be working as it should.

Battery was changed, wake up procedures was reset and not a chime or code in sight.

Warranty covered everything, but a 12v compressor has now disappeared from the boot. To be discussed on Monday with the garage.
