Rear Lights - AUC Warranty
I know its been covered before, but can someone tell me if the following is likely to be covered under the AUC warranty:
1. Left rear light cluster....sometimes there is condensation in the indicator strip, but not always. However, there is a ladybird (yes!) in one of the red compartments above it.
2. Right rear light cluster...pretty much constant condensation in the indicator strip. Doesn't look like any water sloshing about etc, but the condensation doesn't seem to clear.
Would 1&2, or one or the other, be covered for replacement under the AUC warranty? It's been suggested that they should be fixed by the supplying dealer...who says all BMW lights get condensation....

Mine went in for it's MOT whilst still under AUC warranty and had an advisory for condensation in the headlamp. I just presumed they would fix it without a problem, but they said they would have to have it in for a period of time and monitor it. If the condensation went away in a few days then that would be classed as acceptable. I didn't have time for this and was sick of Sytners at this point.
I took the car home, lubricated the seal at the back of the headlamp with a rubber grease and the problem has gone away.

I had this with a 3 series once....one of the headlights had condensation in it (but the other one didn't).
Took it in and they agreed to change it. However, on the day they said it was normal and would clear after 30 minutes driving. I had to go to a site for work that was an hour away.....after going there and back it was still misted, so took it to show the dealer...and questioned why didn't the other side do it. They changed the unit.
But the warranty seems to cover less than it used to, so I want to know what the general response is from the dealers, so I know if they're fobbing me off.

I have no experience of a warranty claim for this but if you go in armed with some knowledge of the problem they’ll be less likely to be able to fob you off if you think that’s what they would try!
The lights have two main issues one is any water run off from the boot lid gutter ends up on the back of the light and their is a seal around the light that is only made of foam and will let water in the worst bit about the lights is that the lense over time starts to fatigue and will crack and split where it is glued onto the main body of the light unit
Have a good look around the edge of the light and you’ll see the glue line all round if you can see any cracks or light spots around the glue line I’d say that is where moisture is getting in, they are nothing but design faults and so should be replaced!.
If the worst case is they don’t there are a few threads on here how to sort it out quite easily

Thanks,
I’ve let this one go for the moment, it seems to have cleared and I’ve been distracted with other problems on the car.
Seen other threads saying the replacements are about £140 each, so even if I dont get it on warranty, its not a huge expense (considering its a BMW).
