Yes, it’s just mechanical. The actuator is vacuum operated but it should all move freely.
Hi John, I don’t think these are vacuum operated? The earlier cars had one like that but the lci models went to a solenoid activated wastegate. :?

Yes I think you’re correct on that Rob.... My mistake. Sorry Steve, wrong year.

Cheers Rob, good spot, my bad.

If it is electronic then no, you’re not pushing against a vacuum as in the earlier cars. Sorry, I got the wrong year.

Waste Gates op mechs have changed a lot over the years .
The Saab turbo was operated by exhaust gas pressure on top of a diaphragm!

Do you have fault codes? Common problems with these are the diverted valves/boost solenoids (they seem to have a number of names). If they are faulty they can fail with the wastegates stuck in the open position so no boost can be built to protect the turbos. If I remember the usual codes are something like 30ff or 30fe. If you have Carly or someone does close by they could scan and check for you.

Hi all,

All sorted now. It was the boost pipe from turbo to intercooler that had completely filed. Plastic boost pipes!? Apparently all manufacturers use these now as silicone hoses perish.

BMW really weren’t great to deal with. All dealerships are absolutely stacked with recalls!!
