Transmission whine

Post by mcbutler » Fri Mar 09, 2018 6:30 pm

Hello everyone,

Well, after having my gearbox diagnosed as defective as it is making a whining noise I sent it off to a specialist in Kent.
Called them this evening and they told me absolutely nothing is wrong with it and they would be happy to reassemble it and sell it with a full 12 month warranty!!
During disassembly a small amount of play was found in the DMF, which will be replaced.
They have suggested it may be the centre bearing or the diff.

Noise occurs at 1400 rpm in second gear under a light load, small incline for example.

I have an audio file but no idea how to attach it to the post and youtube will not allow it without a video..

Any help appreciated

That sounds like an alien spacecraft coming in to land!
If it only happens in 2nd gear it doesn’t sound likely to be the dmf or the diff?

Sure it isn’t tyres? Does it only do it in gear and in 2nd and definitely not in any other gears at that road speed or out of gear?

No, not tyres. Only at 1400 rpm light load and only in 2nd gear...
