1991 VW Golf gti MK2 - Very low mileage

Post by Z4mguy » Tue Sep 06, 2016 9:01 pm

Offered up for sale -
1991 Volkswagen Golf gti mk2 8v Big bumper edition
3 door
37 000 miles from new
Tornado Red
Having taken the car in as part of a business transaction earlier in the year we have decided to sell this little beauty.
1 Registered keeper from new - Owned by Lady Birkbeck of Massingham - Granddaughter of late Colonal Birkbeck - Those from the area may know of the family. Used up until 2005 and then stored in the garage until she passed away beginning of the year. She left her entire estate to her nephew including this car. Upon inspection a new battery was fitted and she fired up with no issues and the engine ran very well.
We took this car on and it was subject to a thorough mechanical recommission - Full engine service (oil, filters, plugs), Timing blt, water pump, suspension arms, track rod ends, brake disks and pads all round, brake fluid + more.
The car looks fantastic for the age - no rotten sills/chassis etc. No rot in the boot/petrol filler cap, a perfect headlining, original stereo, original seriel numbers in the windows. Even the original number plates from the supplying dealer have been retained. The car comes with the original service book and has been serviced 6 times over 37 000 miles. We were not planning on selling the car and I was going to keep her for quite some years - mainly because I have always liked mk2s and also because there really aren't many low owner, low miles examples remaining that come up for sale. However, the car is hardly going to be used and I do not have an indoor garage space to keep her. She will remain covered in my friends unit - not roofed over winter and started every now and again. I feel this is a good opportunity to move her on to someone who may have the space. Maybe a collector? I understand this is not the kind of car most on this forum will be after but there might be someone who is after a old hot hatch to enjoy and invest in as values have risen exponentially for low mileage Gtis over the past 18 months.
I will be having the car detailed over the next few days and she will be cleaned thoroughly before pictures are taken.
If the car does sell then I will be in the market for an M car of some sort :D

Thanks for reading

That's a lot of money, but someone will probably pay that!

There can't be many left in that sort of condition, but it's exactly why I don't want a classic despite a mate's best efforts to convince me otherwise! (Mind you that may be because he buys and sells them)!

Much rather have my Z4C and a chunk of cash! :driving:

Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire

It is a lot of money and you are right, there are people out there who show an appreciation for older cars - in particular icons of the 1980s.
Small bumper gtis with low mileage now fetch £10k+. MK1 gtis with very low mileage are going for high teens.

I could mention many great cars I paid less than half of that but it would not be a fair comparison.
