FS: Hand-made audio and headphone cables

Post by Chris_D » Fri Jul 30, 2021 10:33 pm

Some of you know I have a little side-project building high-end audio interlinks. It keeps me occupied and off the streets during the evening hours and is an enjoyable hobby/pastime that pays back a little bit of pocketmoney!

I recentlly branched out into the mysterious and mythical world of headphone cables after building a few of my own and being surprised by the difference in sonic signature between different materials and cabletypes used.
So as an update to my earlier post selling my ChrisCables 'Crystal Clear' RCA interlink here are a few more examples of different IC and headphone cables which I build to order.

I predominantly sell over on Marktplaats.nl, Etsy and Tapeheads.net but maybe some of you here on this forum might be interested in upgrading your IC's or headphone cables?
I build to mostly any specification, including RCA-RCA, 3/4 pole XLR-XLR, DIN, MMCX, AES/EBU, 3.5mm, 6.2mm TRS, TRRS or basically any configuration you can think of!

I recently noticed a spike in demand for my 'Cacophonous DIN' cable which which is a DIN-RCA cable that can be used between Naim and non-Naim equipment. I found out that the proprietor of 'Flashbacksales', who specialised in these sort of cables recently passed away and so it seems I have unknowingly taken on part of his client-base. Sad to hear but I'm glad I can continue to fulfil a demand in the niche market for these cables.

I take time and care when building these cables, always using 4.7% silver solder, professional grade vanDamme and Belden cable, top quality connectors from Neutrik, WBT and Nakamichi as well as a super new KSGER T12 precision solder station which has been a real game-changer for the range of connectors I can now solder and the overall quality of the solderwork.

In any case, if anyone has any requirements drop me a line and maybe there's something I can build for you.
Adverts and full descriptions (in Dutch) for all cables shown here below currently hosted over on Marktplaats.nl:

Great looking product Chris
lol thx.
I was trying to explain what a 'cacophonous din' was to a dutch friend recently and she didn't get why I would name a cable after something that had negative connotations. I tried to explain that it was ironic but she didn't really get it sadly.

I should also mention that forum members would get a 10% discount on the Marktplaats price but I would have to charge for postage to the UK unfortunately which currently stands at €9.

This is good to know Chris. I work in AV and although I do make up leads if I need to, they don't look anywhere near as professional as your efforts.

Keeps me off the streets and in beer tokens!

Discovered some beautiful 4-core 24AWG UPOCC cable recently and started making some headphone cables with it as it sounds 'insane in the membrane!'

ChrisCables latest 'homage' XLR/RCA interconnect

Post by Chris_D » Sun Oct 24, 2021 11:59 pm

This is my take on the ludicrously expensive Chord Indigo Plus 2 interconnect.
How much did they sell this cable for? £1350! Yep, you read that right. 1350 sponds...for a cable.
:o
Admittedly, Chord has a reputation for making top-tier hifi gear but cashing-in on the cachet of being a hifi peddler to the well-heeled and famous is no excuse for charging that amount for a fekin' cable! :x

So I decided to explore if the perceived benefits of using 3 separate runs of cable for each conductor in an XLR cable configuration would yield any sonic benefits. Indeed it does. The noisefloor is super dark and there is absolutely no RFI/EFI due to the superior shielding arrangement.
Hifi geeks will know what I'm on about, I'm not going into any indepth explanations here unfortunately but suffice to say that it's become the new standard in my hifi setup now. :)

In any case I have already taken a few orders from peeps over at tapeheads, stereo2go and head-fi, so if anyone from here is interested just drop me a PM with your requirements and I'll build some up for you. Wait time currently stands at about 10-15 days. It's quite a time-consuming cable to build to be honest and this is just a 'paid hobby' of mine so I get about 2-3 hours per evening to get busy with the soldering iron and I currently have a backlog of orders for this and other cables.

The cable type used is the lovely purple-coloured vanDamme Tour Grade Classic XKE twin conductor with 3 runs for an XLR cable and 2 for an RCA cable.
Connectors used are Neutrik XLR with gold-plated pins and I use Nakamichi twist-lock RCA connectors for the RCA interconnects.

Prices start at Eu180 for a 500mm set of XLR IC's and Euro160 for a set of 500mm RCA IC's. Still a lot of money for a cable perhaps but a damn sight cheaper than Chords version and dare I suggest probably better-made! 8)

Further options can be seen at my Marktplaats ad.

ChrisCables Halloween sale. 10% discount on the entire range!

Post by Chris_D » Sun Oct 31, 2021 1:57 pm

Having a Halloween sale at the mo.
10% discount on the whole range, which may cover postage costs to the UK from NL (?)
Free delivery if you're in NL and ask me for a postage quote for anywhere else.

A few of you have bought some cable sets and headphone cables previously.
Not had much feedback from here but no worries - there's no obligation! At least I haven't had any refund requests so I assume they're living up to / exceeding expectations...?

I advertise over on Marktplaats.NL and am currently in the process of commercialising my hobby into a little registered business over here in NL with a tax number, website and everything. Woowee!
So this is your chance to take advantage of the current low prices plus this weekend's 10% discount before I have to start lumping overhead costs and sales tax on them!

Adverts are in Dutch I'm afraid, but Google translate is your friend
