Now sold. Marin Quake 9.0 Dual Slalom Hardtail bike

Post by Owdgit » Sun Feb 07, 2021 9:50 pm

Marin Quake 9.0 Dual Slalom - Retro Vintage Dual Slalom Hardtail circa 1998-2000.
Condition is "Hardly Used".
£350

DOES NOT INCLUDE THE BIKE STAND.

Bought new for our son to use at University but he never took it and now lives in London.

Has sat in the garage unused since.

Does have some marks from storage.

I don't know much about bikes but my son says the following non standard options fitted (doesn't mean anything to me  )

Has the hydraulic Hope brake set up.

Had a down hill device fitted (single front sprocket)

Would possibly benefit from a service, perhaps you could apply for the government’s “fix your bike”scheme to pay for it?

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/fix-your-bi ... -a-voucher

There are various reviews on the internet.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try and get an answer or photo for you.
Collection from Warrington Cheshire area.

Try putting it up on Retrobike Forum, there may be some takers there. Long time since I've seen Manitou X-Verts in the wild!

Some awesome retro bits there! Sadly mountain bike tech has moved on so I doubt you’ll get what you want for it. It’s a very small frame as well.

Cheers fellas, it seems a lot of bike for the money but it's only worth what someone will pay for it.
It's just been gathering dust sat in the garage for the last 20 years, it's hardly been used.
Cleaning the garage out brought it out of the corner and gave the incentive to try to sell it.

Thing is that mountain bikes have moved on a fair bit in 20 years. I think you would struggle to get replacement parts for a fair bit of the bike from a normal reseller. The forks are elastomer sprung and they really haven't been used since about 1999 and the geometry for frames is very very different.

As an example I sold (to a mate to be fair) a 2010 150mm each end, air sprung, 27 speed bike with minimal use (good tyres and still supported Shimano brakes) for just over £400. I maybe could have gotten £500.

I have a similar vintage bike and have similar issues as I want to rebuild it for nostalgia. I recently got back on after a realistic 20 year gap (I never rode the 2010 bike) and it's a totally different ball game!

But Retrobike has a lot of enthusiasts who may well be interested in something this focused.

Ha, I just tried to register on retrobike to list the bike but it wouldn't let me, it says my iP or isp provider is blacklisted or spam!
