Porsche 997 Carrera Gen1 manual 2006 Atlas Grey

Kinger makes a good point regarding IMS issues being more likely to affect cars that spend most of their life siting in the garage on trickle charge. I've done a lot of research and there's a lot of mis-information out there with over inflated statistics that incorrectly magnify the issue. Those 997 gen ones that are daily drives and are piling on the miles virtually never suffer IMS problems, and when you get to 90k plus you're home and dry :driving:

From your research, what would be the additional risk by parking it for longer time re the IMS issue?

Rennlist has a lot to say regarding this, which seems to follow the general consensus of Porsche forums:
It seems that some of the failures might be due to cars sitting for longer periods of time than others and the bearings, in a sense, drying out. Then, of course, when they are being driven, there isn't any lubrication and the IMS bearing slowly eats itself up until it finally fails completely.

Just before folks go off a cliff re borescore & IMS making these cars worthless :( the IMS was upgraded at the factory from late 55plate / 06 cars , its easy enough to check on database with engine number if any 997 has the old or new one fitted , failures on the upgraded one are extremely rare .
Borsecore affects more 3.8 engines than 3.6 ones simply due to thinner bore liners being used , the 3.8 offers 30bhp over the same model 3.6 so hardly a massive number .
Also worth noting the tiptronics increase the chances of borescore considerably due to them pulling away in 2nd so a 3.8s tip will offer the highest chance of major failure hence why the bulk of cars for sale right now starting at £17k upwards will be tips or 3.8s , , all of the 3 buyer interested in my car specifically wanted a manual 3.6 no doubt for the exact reasons i did .
The 997 is no different to any other car , you sift out the good from bad , you buy on current condition & of course a well documented history .
The web is full of folks discussing these cars who haven't a clue what they are discussing
3 ZMRs
3 E89s
5 Si coupes
5 Si roadsters

With the OP's car being a manual, and in the same price bracket as some of the M cars, I would certainly think that this car is at a very good price for the mileage and a superb drivers car.
