Z4MC Eisenmann / CSLs / Youtube feature

Post by JWF1 » Fri Sep 17, 2021 1:37 pm

Hi all,

This is part of a small private collection which I am selling as I would like to go racing next year.

I took great care to select this Z4MC. I bought it in a private sale from a fellow BMW enthusiast and it appears to have been well looked after throughout its life. It benefits from the following features:

- A desirable spec with Black Sapphire Metallic paint, Imola Red leather and carbon effect interior, rear parking sensors, heated seats.
- Eisenmann exhaust properly fitted (similar volume to the original but much better quality sound)
- CSL replica alloys completely unmarked
- Short weighted BMW ZHP gear knob and aluminium pedals, which improve the feel of these contact points
- Youtube feature by JayEmm currently with 71k views (worth watching)
- Just had a contamination detail by 1080 London
- Front brakes recently replaced
- The exterior and interior present very well for any mileage level
- Stored underground, temperature controlled and low humidity
- Only done 2.5k miles in my ownership (now at c.79,000)
- Looked after by Munich Legends and BMW main dealers

I understand from my research that BMW updated the S54 around model year 2006 and including all Z4Ms, so the VANOS and rod bearings are stronger in these models than in early E46s for example. When thinking about reliability in general, I took extra comfort in seeing the amount of Z4Ms available with 100k miles and well beyond.

I'm pleased that I have owned this car for the engine alone. It's fantastic and that's why it won engine of the year several years in a row back in the day. The intake sound and throttle response all the way to 8k rpm are among the best ever.

See more pics on PH which is by far the most friendly when it comes to number and quality of images! I have posted >40 on there including the service book and more exterior/interior detail.

I am asking for £21,975. In my view pricing throughout the Z4M market is becoming quite inconsistent (AT and PH asking prices are all over the place) and it's developing into more of a classic car market where the value of each car is less strictly tethered to the basics and more about the genuine qualities of each car. Same is happening with the E46 M3 market, which was my other choice back when shopping for this M but I was too scared of the list of reliability issues with those! I think the M is going to be a real winner in terms of investment value but I really want to start racing, which is never going to be a financially sensible hobby, so just need to bite the bullet and go for it.

Available to view and test drive in London (Fulham). I'm working from home at the moment so I can be available any time. Whatsapp / phone / email / imessage all good with me. Probably best to start with a PM and go from there.

Jack

As a fellow Coupe owner, I wish you every success with your sale.

As an observation, there’s one common theme I’ve noticed about the MC’s that go for a premium vs those that sit there with a premium price… évidence this & is likely won’t sit around long…
1. Being close to OEM as possible, or, with easily swappable parts kept in the garage by the owner such as wheels / induction kits etc to easily revert car to OEM
2. History & condition. people @ higher end will be anal on this part - omitting a detailed timeline of every historical service, especially milage of the 1st running in one on a specialist car is an early red flag
3. Time based TLC - being 14 years old, if its just had the regular BMW servicing based on milage intervals implies a car run on a shoestring - to me another red flag
4. Extra TLC - are the tyres a max of 3-4 years older with good tread, are they premium, has the diff / gearbox oil been changed… & on your point about Vanos & Shells, it’s preventative maintenance, not that this version is stronger

Hope these suggestions help for extra tweaks to your add to sell the car

Are you sure it's got Coral interior, as I thought the only 'light' red option was Imola (dark red was Amarone). A VIN decoder should tell you the correct colour.

You've also got blacked out grille surrounds (they will have been chrome originally).

You note 'desirable spec' but fail to list any bits of the spec that you consider desirable!

Is it on standard suspension and tyre/wheels sizes, as the rear looks closer to the arch than normal?

I'm also not sure that anyone has ever bought the Eisenmann (sport or race) exhausts for the same volume - they both tend to be louder, but the sport is often described as OE-plus as it's a similar sound...just louder (unless that's what you meant) :P

As a seller/owner, I'd not be concerned about having 80,000 miles under its belt without bearing shells or VANOS work as I'd know how the car was treated for 80,000 miles - but as a buyer of a car that's quickly gone through 2 owners, I'd be budgeting for both.

Welcome to the forum Jack, even if you seem to also be leaving!

The Red leather offered in the M models was Imola Red which is what yours looks like. Someone mentioned Ammarone which is a fair bit darker and was an Individual colour, so special order in effect. And the Carbon Effect dash was the standard fitting on the M.

From your photos is looks like your car has the rear parking sensor, heated seats, Multi-Function Steering Wheel and possibly Sat-Nav options but if you run a check on a VIN decoder it will tell you what it had, and confirm the seat colour!

I've heard suggestions that bearing shells were upgraded at some point but looking at the ones that came out of mine last year they still don't last forever! Although I'll admit how the car is driven when not properly warmed seems to be considered the major issue for bearing wear.

I hope I don't sound negative because that isn't what I intended, but it's a tough audience on here! Although you don't want to potentially mislead anyone if you advertise elsewhere.

Anyway GLWTS.

Disagree with point 3 Jembo, I follow the BMW service schedule and don't scrimp at all on my car

Thank you all for your comments. It is indeed Imola Red leather (not Coral) and I have clarified in the text that it has heated seats and rear parking sensors, which also show in the pictures.
