2004 Z4 E85 3.0 manual - fully retrimmed

Post by Mondo » Tue Jun 29, 2021 7:40 pm

My BMW Z4 E85 is up for sale, just in time for some sunshine. I bought this in April 2020. Asking price £3,400 or best offer.

It's a 2004 car, 3.0 with a 6 speed manual box. The mileage is 146365, but that will go up slightly due to commuting. It's MOT'd until 19/09/21. Full service history up to 2019. Standard equipment is:

Cruise control
Electric folding and heated mirrors
Electric windows and hood
Multi function steering wheel (retrimmed by Royal Steering Wheels)
Sport button
Parking sensors
TPMS
Traction control
10 speaker audio with Aux input
Factory Xenon headlights with headlight washers
Auto lights and wipers
Full OEM wind deflector kit, including roll hoop inserts and boot storage brackets
2 keys and lots of paperwork (PDF formats)

The M Sport seats are fully electric, with heating and memory function, with no collapsed bolsters or bases. These have been retrimmed last year in Andrew Muirhead Sateen Ruby leather, with perforated black leather details and grey topstitch. The doorcards, handbrake handle and gaiter, gear gaiter and kneepads have all been trimmed to match and the cabin is just a beautiful place to be. The gearknob is a ZHP item and I replaced the door handle trims and internal door pulls with brand new items last year.

The factory Xenon headlights have been modified with switchback LED halos. The projector lenses themselves have been replaced with more modern units and the bulbs are Yeakey uprated items, so the nighttime visibility is superb now.

There are hubcentric wheel spacers all round to fill the arches a little better. These are 20mm rear and 15mm front. The original wheel studs are included should the new owner wish to remove the spacers.

The Vanos unit was fully reconditioned last year and the Disa valve was replaced at the same time.

All the brake flexi lines were replaced last year with braided stainless items.

There is a hardwired dashcam fitted.

This car drives well and pulls well. The hood works perfectly in both directions and the motor has been relocated to the boot. The hood is in good condition with no rips or tears. The paintwork is in good condition and, as can be seen in the pictures, still shines up well. Please remember that this is a 17 year old car though, so it isn't immaculate.

Bad points:

Alloys could do with a refurb.
Hood would benefit from being coloured and sealed (full kit included in sale).
Front undertray missing.
Parking sensors currently inactive.
Satnav unit has been crudely modified into a shelf of sorts.
There is a slight knock upon turning the steering wheel.
Passenger seat sometimes triggers airbag light when sat in (iCarSoft computer resets it in seconds).

It's a good honest car that looks really nice and is perfect for the weather we've been having recently. There are two new front brake calipers included in the sale (I bought them for painting) and a complete kit to reseal and recolour the hood. The original kidney grills also come with the car, in addition to the matt black ones fitted.

I also have a BMW-specific iCarSoft diagnostic computer which will be included if if the asking price of £3,400 is met. Located Shildon, County Durham.

Having just picked up Mondo's M bumpers, I can say this car is very well presented and the interior quality has to be seen to be believed! Good luck with the sale, I'm sure the buyer will be happy

No desire to hijack your sale thread, so maybe PM me a response if it suits - did you do the work on the lights yourself, or get it professionally done? They look great, I'd love the details behind them if you're willing to share.

Car looks lovely btw, GLWS!

I’ve been missing this since I sold it. I’m interested. Couple of questions though.

Is the pass airbag light an MOT fail?
Do you know why it’s happening? Possibly a loose connection somewhere when you changed the seats?
Will the pass airbag work even with the error?

Any idea whats wrong with the parking sensors?
They were all working when I sold it and the rear bumper looks the same.

Love the interior and the headlights btw

The airbag light only comes on occasionally when the passenger seat is occupied. I've checked the connections and they're all sound beneath the seat. I can only assume it has something to do with the occupancy sensor in the seat base. Clearing the code clears the fault and removes the airbag light, so no MOT fail there. I very rarely have anyone else in with me so I've only seen it happen a couple of times since the new seats went in.

I replaced 2 of the parking sensors as they died a few months after I bought it. You can hear them all clicking but the PDC system isn't active. No fault codes are stored for it so I'm not sure what the issue is with them.

No, to a local guy who's bought it for his wife's birthday today. He was very happy as he drove away and I was a little sad to see her go but....

As long as you’re both happy, but yes, it’s a strange feeling to see someone else driving off in you P&J. Have you a replacement lined up?
