I don’t think that’s too greedy an ask for a dealer tbh, pretty realistic actually. I paid £18k for a fully loaded 32k mile one from Snippersgate in 2017 when prices were fairly even, certainly not in their price heyday a few years earlier. So it’s only my thinking of course but try them at £18.5k and go to £19k tops, I’d think they’d have a deal at that. Just imho of course, there are others here that watch the markets more than I do. Best of luck if you go for it......and I’m still kicking myself for not buying your red E89..... :headbang:

Yes I regret selling the red one - bought it new and to my spec with the bits I felt I would use and did!

Never mind, going to look on the usual places for an M convertible to gauge prices and you never know
UNDERSTEER is when you hit the fence with the front of the car,
OVERSTEER is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car,
HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the fence,
TORQUE is how far you take the fence with you.

Looks a good example.
With that mileage, and a decent spec,I'd say £18.5-19k is what it should be sold for/bought at,as John suggest, agree with that.
You selling your m4,or is this in addition to?

Hi Craig, no the M4 was sold just after the trip last year - in fact took the call on my way home!

So the consensus is the price is about correct - any issues I should check prior to buying i.e. is there anything that should have been attended to that if not will cause or possibly cause problems?

First thing I'd be wanting to see with a 26k E85 S54 at £20k is its service record, that should indicate whether or not its worth the ask .

Well yeah obvs, same with all the other checks you’d make with a 2nd hand car unless you’re crackers...if it’s got orange overspray on the rear arches you’d walk....

With the low mileage, things like Vanos shouldn't be an issue,as they tend to be from 60k upward, generally speaking.
But I would,as Andy/Mr Wilks suggests, service records should be Spot on,at £20k ask,so.usual M stuff mate....
Run in service at 1200 miles, give or take, Oil and Inspection 1 & 2 services done in the correct order/time, regardless of the mileage/low use.
(Some people think it's ok just to give them an oil change with low use,but regardless,it should get Oil/Inspection 1, Oil, Inspection 2 in that order,at least every 2 years, which I'm sure you will know from owning other BM's.)

Not much else, but many threads on here re Conrods, etc but again, too low a mileage for that to be an issue, imo.
Check if it's had Valve clearance done at Every Inspection service, may need to call dealers/service places to verify, but worth it,as Very important on these, and many "specialist" BMW places don't do it,when I asked about mine,or they say they will so it same day as you take it in,which isn't True....needs to be cold,so needs in the night before

So I think I now know why this car is still for sale - its the service history or lack of it

The car is an 07 reg with just under 26,000 on the clock and the service history is as follows;

26/06/07 Pre-delivery inspection
15/07/07 Running in service - BMW garage @ 1136 miles
23/08/11 Inspection 1 service Blue Bell Crewe @ 6216 miles
26/07/13 Oil service Blue Bell Crewe @ 18209 miles
24/11/18 Oil service Sytner Solihull @ 24206 miles

So no inspection 2 and only really sporadic oil changes so I think its been run on a very tight budget and not for me

Yeah,patchy service records.
But it may have been the (misguided) belief that some people have with low mileage cars, that if they aren't doing many miles, then it's fine to leave it 4 or 5 years between services, lol.
You could argue for and against that all day,as some do,but regardless of mileage,it needs done every 2 years as a minimum,so it's missed out on services in 2009,2015 and 2017, plus as you say,No Inspection 2.(due 2015).
Not to mention it should have had 2 Inspection 1 services and 1 Inspection 2 service by now, with valve clearances and shims done each time.

Shame,as it looks a good example otherwise.

Annoying that some owners say if it's only doing 1000 miles a year it doesn't need Oil changed etc, but ,while probably true to a point, letting it go more than 2 years without any services is poor imo.

Good luck with your continued search if you go ahead with one mate

Cheers Craig, will let everyone know what I eventually do get and this one looked to fit the bill but think unless there is a huge movement in the price its not for me :(

OP - Suggest you ask yourself is there a price point you’d still buy it?

If so, suggest you have a conversation with the seller, saying whilst the car is low milage it’ll always have this shoestring budget service history which for any future buyer will be an issue.

IMO, if it runs & drives cleanly, if you acquired it for around £15k then I think that’s be fair to both parties

You make sense Jembo but I doubt that'd sway a dealer, I’d think they’ll sit on it and wait for someone not as clued up as Jasperoony, which will happen sure as night follows day, giddy knees and love at first sight can tramp all over logic...!

It’s a tricky one as usual with these cars, how many have really had their running in service despite what the book says..? I’d wager there’s a decent amount running around that haven’t knowing how some dealers work on tight service times, they didn’t bother with my low mileage 35is’s first service..... :x So mechanically this car here might or might not be in any worse or better state than any other really. You can buy a low miles car, keep it up to date with services on the dot for years but being 2nd 3rd hand you don’t know it’s first stages of life, a minter might have been ragged to death from cold for the first 10k. Anyhoo Jasp is probably doing the right thing.

For a car to make good money/top money then it MUST have a FULL service history, regardless of miles driven. I personally would not touch it with gaps of five years in between oil changes, unless the prices reflects this. However just remember this when you sell it on as the next owner is likely to also want a full service history unless your selling price in a few years reflects it again!

So spoken to the stealer who is apparently selling for a customer.

I asked what would buy the car taking into account the service history and he said they had turned down an offer of £19,000 so my interest ceased right there and then and no discussion was allowed as the stealer put the phone down on me when I said I was thinking along the lines of £15,000 due to the poor service history

Not worth further thought even with the low mileage as like others have said its the selling on that will cause me issues in the future :headbang:

I think all the dealer needs to do is get a fresh ins2 done which in the trade should cost him no more than £550/£700 & possibly fresh rubber depending on d o m.
Then at £19950 with a warranty & garage prepped I think he's close to getting it sold .
Or its a £18k & buyer fettles , I think £15k Jembo is a step too far
