E89 Z4 M Sport

Post by lyricalgangsteruk » Thu Dec 10, 2020 12:15 am

So I had the z4 remapped today by Will at Ptorque. Great service, friendly and knowledgable chap!

When I first drove the Z when I bought it, I was surprised that 150 bhp ish felt pretty decent, I suppose the low driving position, roof down, noise and the fact I had just traded in a 80bhp ibiza would do that.

Wanted a remap with rolling road to check the car was good before mapping, fortunately it was. I am chuffed to bits with this one.

Remap done - headline figures 266bhp and 413nm torque. Overtaking is a doddle.

Accelerated in first , through to second then third and felt a lot of power - very quick indeed. I cant imagine a 3 litre turbo mst be like!

I'm more than happy and feel like it's now got the power to match its looks. What a gorgeous shape it is - far better in real life than pictures.

Remap pics now, car pics once clean!

Looks like it was producing the right power for an 18i, bet it felt quicker on the drive home! :o

Hi, yes it's an 18i.

Felt great on the way home, but the majority was on the motorway so I'll get a better feel for it on local roads, overtaking on A roads etc.

No regrest as yet :D

Well the good news is that the baseline figure and the re-map numbers all fall in the plausible range so looks kosher..

Just a further thought on the dyno runs /tuner..

Many of the 18i seem to make more power than the 20i or even the 28i..

Your's seem conservatively in the middle of the power gains..

Not sure if that's the tuner being more cautious or just the way it is with your engine..

When I had mine tuned they commented on the variablity of what should be identical engines even within each sub group..

Anyway I'm sure its transformational! Enjoy.. :driving:

Ptorque did mine too and going from a stock 18 to 282 bhp & 450Nm + is one hell of a leap. Some may say that this is taking the N20 too far but I was looking at the AC Schitzner site and there performance upgrade take the N20 28i to 294bhp & 420Nm so it just shows how much can be gained.

Hi there sure..just as you say yours was 282 bhp this one is a bit less 266...doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme just a bit of variation..was yours de-catted?

Yes Peter mine is and was decatted when Ptorque remapped it, Will at Ptorque did say to me he could have got more but said or rather advised to keep it at 282bhp and 453Nm

I was happy with the 266, yes ideally 280+ would be better but there we go!

Will did say that stage two (which I assume is extra hardware - exhaust, filter etc) would take it safely to 285 ish, he said he could go more, but he likes to leave a bit just in case - he mentioned piston rings or something as a possible weakness?

TBH the difference between upper and lower powrede remaps is only small in the scheme of things, and obviousy different dynos give different readings I guess.

It is a totally different car now, I'm very happy indeed! One thing I would say, is that it definitely seems quieter post remap? I expected more noise, not less!

Might just be my ears - I've not had the roof down much due to the rain...

There was another one due for a remap at Ptorque but was delayed due to waiting the delivery of a Supersprint decat pipe and I wonder if that one had been remapped yet.

Boltz, the decat pipe finally arrived from Italy last week and Will will be installing the pipe and FMIC on 21/22 December and then apply a stage 2+ remap.

Yes as you say the massive jump from the base figures is really all that matters plus the strong shape of the torque curve.. :driving:

Ref noise you may actually be shorter shifting on that wave of torque so maybe it seems quieter.. :tumbleweed:

This is all very interesting but does any moderator fancy moving this into a more relevant section such as ‘E89 General Discussion’ as this thread is no longer either a ‘Wanted’ or ‘For Sale’ advert?
