Hi and welcome to the forum, Harvey.
If you can you might want to try both before you decide - the 2.2i with a straight 6 engine will definitely sound better than a 2.0i!
Unless insurance will be a problem, you might want to include 2.5is or 3.0is in your search as all the 6 cylinder models use the same engine just in different sizes - so running costs are pretty much the same.
Anyway, happy hunting - and don't forget the photos once you've found one.

Ignore the 2.0. you'll get a half decent 2.2 for around £3kish. I sold mine a few months back for £3500 and it was in fantastic condition. If you don't mind a little rough around the edges then you shouldn't have to wait too long

Looks like a deposit taken here but it's a pretty good benchmark of what's around...

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I had to have a Coupe, so a 3 litre was the lesser of 2 evils for me.
Personally I'd want a straight 6 as that is one of the Z4s more unique features, but why limit your options to 2.0 or 2.2? A 2.5 or 3.0 would be more fun, and they don't cost any more to run than a 2.2.

Nothing wrong with a 2.0 in the real world. Smooth and enough grunt to keep you happy, but not empty your wallet every time you need to fill up if you can stretch to £5k my 2.0! M sport is for sale with only 49800 miles.
Then 2008 E85 2.0i Sport roadster.
Now 2012 E89 2.0i M Sport
Live every day like it's your last, cos one-day you'll be right

2.2s are great- had mine nearly 12 years and love it every time it comes out to play! They are rare though so I would also include 25 and 3.0 in your search. Buy the best one on condition etc rather than engine as long as it’s a 6cyl
Z4 2.2 sterling grey,Msport seats,retrofit cupholders,cruise,footwell lights,sound gen and mfsw,18"ellipsoids,xenons+light washers,ZHPknob,folding mirrors,3"stubby,update wheel caps,gateway300 ipod, wind deflector to keep the wife happy!

Would I be right in saying that the 2.2 was actually only available in 03/04 and was dropped in the LCI model?

It was replaced with the 2.5i 177bhp (I've had 3 now) they are OK but no rocket ship, and the pre face 2.5i was replaced with the 2.5si (217bhp)greg81 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 2:37 pmpaddy wright wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 2:26 pm 2.2s are great- had mine nearly 12 years and love it every time it comes out to play!
