2003 BMW Z4 2.5i Convertible Manual Titan Silver Leather

Reluctantly for sale, my BMW Z4. I bought it with the intention to bring it up to perfect standard, then fit a supercharger and use it as my weekend fun car. Unfortunately a new job with a commute and no carport to work under means that I must cut this short. There is a short summary and then below it a full account of the car.

Please note I am out of the country until 10th October.

I am not accepting offers on the car as I think it´s very keenly priced for the condition and the work done as detailed below

In detail

I bought the car from a gentleman in Somerset who had owned the car for the past 4 years (if memory serves me correctly). It has only 5 previous owners and has been looked after with documentation to prove so. I have set out the service records and receipts below (totalling £2500, which is a fraction of what has actually been spent, but I don't have every invoice).

When I got the car it was obviously well cared for but had room for improvement.

I have changed the oil, given it a full check over, and spent at least 70 hours tending to all the common maintenance jobs required on Z4s of this age.

One of the main issues with the M54 engine is the VANOS system. This variable valve timing system is one of the reasons that the engine is so powerful and economical, but the seals inside degrade over time and prevent the system from working properly. If you have driven one of these cars and felt like it was a bit "flat" or underwhelming until higher in the rev range, the VANOS is the culprit.

Unfortunately, it is a very labour intensive job and most garages, if they are even inclined to take it on, will charge between £600-£1000 to overhaul the VANOS. I have done this job on the car and it really transformed the drive. I used upgraded teflon seals from X8R meaning they will never need to be done again for the life of the car.

Another common fault on the M54 is the valve cover gasket. It hardens over time and leaks oil onto the manifolds, causing a stink, and loss of crankcase vacuum, which also causes hesitation and excessive oil consumption. This again is a labour intensive job that I have completed using ELRING quality gaskets.

The DISA (manifold runner diverter flap) can fail on these, I removed the valve, checked it for correct function and resealed it to the inlet manifold.

The PCV (positive crank ventilation system) has been checked for function and any split pipes, no problems, fine and working well.

I've done an oil and filter change, air filter, checked the spark plugs which are NGK iridium with a 60k service interval. I also replaced both aux belts as one was looking a little tired. The expansion tank has been replaced by the previous owner and I refreshed the o-ring seals due to a slight weep. Coolant has also been changed.

The wheels have been refurbished in gloss black as they were looking a little tired. The whole car has been machine polished and sealed with a 12 month synthetic paint sealant. The roof has been cleaned and sealed with Autoglym products. It looks AMAZING in my opinion.

I've changed the front pads for new Pagid as I didn't like the mintex ones on there. I have the matching Pagid rear pads but haven't fitted them yet.

The previous owner spent a lot on suspension arms, ARB links, grooved discs all round, clear brake light, angel eyes, red rear light clusters, I have detailed this in the table below. The throttle body and air mass sensor have been replaced and the software updated.

Being very critical, the front bumper has some hazing to the clearcoat and the lower grille is aluminium mesh rather than the original plastic insert. There are a few small chips to the passenger side rear wing. This in no way detracts from the appeal of the car, I think you will agree.

The car drives extremely well and sounds delightful through the rev range. A paper S2000 filter has been fitted which does make a noticeable improvement to throttle response, though it can be removed and reverted to original airbox with a new Mann filter if preferred.

It has a JVC stereo fitted with bluetooth and AUX in. It sounds great so I think the speakers may have been upgraded but I haven´t checked.

Overall it´s an absolute joy to drive, no issues, looks fantastic, I am confident it´s better than the majority of Z4s out there. Viewing and test drive encouraged.
