Looking for a Coupe under £7000
Hi
Sorry for the first post and all but...
My son is looking for a Z4 Coupe, ideally less than 100000 miles. He has around £7000 to spend.
We were all set to go to West Brom next week to view/buy and drive home to Cornwall but he called to day to pay a deposit to find it had sold 30 min earlier...
Anything out there within budget?
Cheers
Dave

Welcome to the forum, Dave.
You are spoiling your son - surely finding the car is his job?
Anyway it just happens I was looking on Autotrader earlier (there is a thread on here entitled E86 Market Watch) and I spotted this one which is below your target mileage and I'm sure could be bought within your budget. Plus it's a bit nearer to you than West Brom.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified ... ual&page=1
It is a Sport model, so has the desirable M-Sport seats. Although it doesn't have many options, it does have heated seats and the MFSW (stereo controls on the steering wheel).
OK it has a couple of issues, but from what the seller says I'm guessing the airbag light is on because of a faulty passenger seat occupancy sensor - or it could be a bad connection on the seatbelt pre-tensioner (my E46 did this once - it just required a reset). The foglights are a constant problem - as many on the forum have done I drilled a few holes in the bottom of the lenses of mine (they're plastic) and they have dried out.
But at the mileage and budget you're working to you may have accept a couple of issues to be fair. Although you don't specify whether he is looking for an auto. or a manual - you may find an auto slightly cheaper.
But you will always have limited choices at any one time - according to a database a forum member put together only just over 3,000 were sold in the UK. that is all Coupes, SE models, Sport models, manual and auto.
And of course it is in the best colour combination - but I may be biased!
Anyway good luck.

If the one in West Brim was black with 19 inch wheels you did well to miss it. I viewed it and it was a beautiful drive however, it was Cat D and had had a pretty heavy shunt in the passenger side rear and it was the best of repairs.

The front end needed painting and the replaced rear quarter needed refinishing too. It also needed the trim reseating etc. Don't get me wrong, nice base car bit maybe a lot to take on for a first Z4?

Cheap coupe but its on 120k miles & they are showing throw some love & some £ into it & you may get lucky , £7000 for a sub 100k example is a tight space to get into .

Depends what you want from the car and how long you intend to keep it. Coupes do seem to command a higher price however, a roadster shouldn't be discounted either - both are great cars.
As for mileage, this is where I get a little grumpy. Everyone will state how great a BMW straight 6 is and how if looked after, it will run for ever as they are "bulletproof" yet when you come to buy one mileage over 100k becomes an issue. Surely if it's priced accordly it's still a good buy for someone. I agree, 50k examples are north of 10k and rightly so.
My 3.0si roadster has just hit 116k, I put new vanos solenoids in her last week and in the wet the traction control struggles to keep up - she doesn't smoke, burn oil or run rough so I'd say she's healthy.
It's all about perspective and price as it is with any purchase.

Gotta agree , ive had 7 N52 with miles ranging from 77k to 130k & none gave any indications what they had actually covered , treat right & serviced right they are terrific performers & great bang for buck when you consider a 100k + Si roadster can be had from £5k .Simon 3.0si wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 10:15 am Depends what you want from the car and how long you intend to keep it. As for the vanos solenoids had you any reason to swap them or was it done on a whim ? Any noticeable difference ?

Mr Wilks, I changed them as there was a slight lump in the idle and it felt slightly flat under 3k. The car is transformed, pulls through all the gears and just has more grunt - the idle is super smooth too!

This one could be worth a look , its a Se but has 18inch wheels , Mpsort seats & mfsw so only Msprings ( £150 job ) & anthracite headlining define it from being a Sport model ( they are all the same Si 262 bhp engine)
Stratus grey is truly glorious in the real & pretty rare in any Bmw model , contrasting trim looks like it would come to life with little effort .
£7k ask aint that great for 100k car if everything ticks out

as above don't worry about miles as long as it's been looked after! just check that the suspension has been refreshed, more than likely it will be tired after 12 years and more than 100,000 miles
