BMW Independent Car Specialists - Glasgow anyone used them?

Post by scottie1979 » Thu Feb 05, 2009 6:46 pm

Anyone used these independent guys near Ibrox in Glasgow? Their prices look good.

www.bmwcarspecialists.com

Had a good experience with an indi in the W Midlands for my CDV so im up for giving them my business.

Do you think it would effect the resale of my Z4MC without a dealer stamp? Would be interested to know the opinions of the guys who have just bought - if the service history was up to date, receipts show original BMW parts, but the stamp isnt from a main dealer but a specialist BMW indi - would it put you off????

I have most of the work on my cars carried out by George Morrison in Rutherglen. He's really awesome and cannot be bettered. A bit pricey though but you get what you pay for. Go along and check out the Porsches. Ferraris, track cars etc that are in the car park to see the kind of quality he has.
2007 z4mc carbon black - gone but not forgotten. The guy I sold to still has it, maybe one day I will buy it back.
Now - Maserati Gransport with many mods. Sounds incredible.

Just read the rest of your post....

Yes, i think it would definatly affect the resale value. It will also make it un-tradeinable to BMW (if there's such a word) which will narrow your options when you come to change.

Personally it would be exactly the type of car that i'd look for in a 3 year old machine, full history and proud owner but not BMW therefore less valuable.

I tend to let BMW do the service work (to get the book stamped correctly) and absolutely nothing else. When you get that call saying it needs this or that, i'd take it t George and get the truth and do whatever he said needed doing.

Also if you choose BMW do shop around the dealers for prices first. Mine goes to Douglas Park in Glasgow (ex-Henry Bros) as they have the best prices and there's one M technician that George knows so i request that he works on the car (and only him).

Douglas Park and Arnold Clark are not the best of friends so you can play one off the other and ge some reduction in pricing but for goodness sake don't let them do anything easy and overpriced like supply new tyres.

Try B for Bmw in Clydebank.
their prices are 1st class, I used to take the Audi to A for Audi which is the same garage next-door, if you have any doubts go and see their workshop for yourself, you’ll be like a kid in a sweet shop. I can guarantee they will put a Bmw dealer workshop to shame.

I'd second that, I take my wife's Audi there and will be taking the a Beemer in for anything other than the servicing and warranty work. The owner Andy is a really genuine and honest guy.

Wow OT indeed. A lot of these indies are good at protecting warranties now, there's an EU law for it for fair competition so in that respect you don't need to use a main dealer. For re-sale I'd say if someone wanted to pay for a Z4 they'd mainly be looking at mileage, year, and the fact that its had a service of some sort as long as you've recorded it. Service4Service do BMWs in Glasgow: Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen, Glasgow G73 1EE, Phone: 0141 413 0531 (http://www.service4service.co.uk/bmw-se ... sgow-city/). Based on my experience with them I'd suggest trying them out.
Every year 1 in 10 Z4 owners are unable to attend work during the UK snow season. This one is anyway!

my Indy BMW garage is RW Weaver in Cathcart, been using them for over a decade without any issues...

actually just picked the car up from them a few moments ago, they were redoing my hand break adjustment, new shoes and the CDV valve...

:fuelfire: :fuelfire: :fuelfire: service4service absolutely unreliable, claim to be able to service all makes of car, claim to have the full diagnostic equipment and state they will save you money. Well i used them and it cost me in excess of a £1000.00, yes a thousand pounds, which i can verify due to the fact they failed to use the diagnostic kit (if they had it). told me I needed a new solenoid relay pack for my auto gear box and quoted £1498.00 and this was after a service costing £1200. they returned it in an unroadworthy condition with leaking brake pipes they had just replaced and the gear not functioning correctly. I did not like their costs and after over two weeks had the car returned. Following their diagnosis i ordered and fitted the relay pack at a cost of £200, fitted it myself and it did not repair the fault. went online and purchased a diagnostic computer which returned a fault code P0888 which was a solenoid pack supply relay. replaced this and my car is now working and I have been down to Italy with it mid December. so I fixed myself with a lot of stress and cursing, the only reason i used service4service was the fact their website, when I searched for a local garage, assured me they could carry out the service and repairs to the same standard as as my cars dealer and would have the correct diagnostic equipment available. Well if they had it they did not know how to use it but I suspect they lied. Service4Service are not a garage in themselves but have an agreement across the country with local garages and the standards cannot be maintained by them, they are based in an office in Hersham in Surrey, ,just a bunch of salesmen. with regard to my costs caused by their incompetence, £200 for an unnecessary solenoid pack, £166 for a diagnostic computer, and £660 for car hire whilst they had my car in their garage and were unable to confirm the diagnostic fault code and could no assure me that the gearbox would return to operation with their quoted works carried out. The actual fault was the relay and i purchase d one online for just £8.00, as I have already stated they cost me in excess of a £1000 for an £8.00 relay. Whatever you do don't trust them when they say they can carry out your service to the same standards as your dealer! : I do not have a BMW but a Chrysler but I searched for Service4Service reviews so I could advise others not to use them!
