Having used Atlas Auto BMW specialists in York for the last few jobs, the mechanical work was good albeit expensive. Though the car care was terrible. Car damaged and then bodged had to get repaired properly. Anyway another story, won’t be going back to them.
B&M autocare in Pudsey did some warranty work when I first bought the car and it looked like a blind woodsman put the bumper back on and I had to redo very simple and easy work.
My mate has said to avoid Cramag in Yeadon (Leeds) so I’m now looking at taking Heidi (my Z4mc) to Peter Van Der Veer abit further away from home but wanted to know if any of you knowledgable lot had any views on him or any garages in a reasonable radius of Harrogate just north of Leeds. If not I will take a good couple of drives to the other side of the Pennines to use Mr Wilks’ Trusted Indy. Any help muchly appreciated.
As usual. “All the best”

I recently took my Z4 to Autohaus in York for INSP2 and lots of other jobs.

I spoke to Craig all the time my car was there.
He probably spent 1.5hrs on the phone with me in total.
All the work I imagined needed doing from knowledge of the cars state, he spotted and sorted.
Doing DIY a lot of jobs myself, his timings and so labour rates were very reasonable.

The car came back without any extra bodywork modifications haha.

They had it almost a week in the end, showed me the old parts, have a good quote and met it with the final invoice.

They tidied up other bits and pieces like some missing clips etc.

I still need to ask for their notes/INSP2 checklist/snaglist ideally... but since I did everything they spotted I doubt it’s essential.

They even offered to take my car BMW Malton for KDS alignment, but the timings didn’t work out.

Afaik they look after quite a few M cars and there were some old Alpina there when I went.

On B&M, the selling garage I got my Z4 from sent me there for a new radio fitting under warranty just after I got the car.
It seemed busy but ‘cold’, no one to talk to, shoved in a room out of the way.
I felt like asking questions was wasting their time.
Access was terrible.
Lots of ‘average’ BMWs for average owners, but not a good specialist for an enthusiast imo.
Not one part of my experience there was bad. But I’d never go back.
I’d rather use BMW Sandal, or an older car a smaller garage with better support.

Cramag, I’ve not used but I’ve read some worrying threads.
This is the issue with doing big volume and needing lots of mechs, so the actual guys doing the bulk of work are just doing their ‘job’ rather than remembering they’re working on a persons p&j.
It’s quite different to the owner mechanic mentality, unless their staff get paid really well and know and appreciate it!

For me it’s nice to be able to talk cars and direct to the chap doing the work, so Autohaus were spot on for me.
If all the chatting means a higher price then fine, I’d rather pay for that kinda service.

OK BMW Sandal I don’t get to talk to the mechanic, but they’ll follow KDS to the letter and use exact parts/servicing methodology.

Once it’s older and out of main dealer I think a small specialist is tons better!

Spoke to Dean yesterday and he had a quick look at the car. Not only did he reset the computer he advised that the oil service would be best left till the MOT is due in September and he would do both together for a lot less than BMW dealership. Advised that the plugs won't need even examining with only 27K on the clock (BMW were going to change them at £15 each). Even said when I take the car back he would get one of the lads to take me to the Metro Centre nearby to kill a couple of hours while he did the job. Couldn't ask for better. Recommendation much appreciated

You won’t get a choca mocha latte with extra sprinkles served by a dolly bird like you do at the main stealers but for price, knowledge and service you will be very hard pressed to find better than Dean.
