Retrofit cruise control N52 engine

Post by johnsh123 » Sat Oct 10, 2009 4:26 pm

Hi all,
I have a 2007 2.5i se with the N52 engine. I have bought the cruise control kit and got the dealer to print out the latest installation instructions. All seems straight forward until it comes to the bit about plug X60192 on the IVM, the only 42 socket plug I can find in the area of the electrics box is on the power distribution unit and that to me does not make sense.

I have tried to paste the instructions here but can't make it work, so this is what the instructions say.

Cars with M54 or N52 engine (built after 09/06)

Disconnect plug X60192, natural 42-pin, from the IVM control unit and unlock it
Connect B2 SW cable to plug X60192 pin 39.
Reassemble plug X60192 and reconnect to the IVM control unit.

I have trawled the net for hours looking the location of plug X60192 and the IVM unit with no success, if anybody can help with this I will be grateful.

Thanks again for your efforts, the problem I have is with the latest instructions dated 4/2009 that state connecting to the IVM at plug X60192, previous instructions dated 10/2006 say to use one of the DME plugs. I can find no reference to the IVM (power supply module) anywhere.

I may have to go to the dealer and ask them, though I really would prefer not to, not knowing how helpful they will be, I suspect that they may take the attitude that its their job not mine.

I'm repeating this from memory now as I no longer have the car but as I recall, the IVM unit is in front of the DME housing on the nearside (UK). There are 2 clips to release to get inside the IVM housing and the pin you are looking for is in the black plug socket - not the white one.

If you post a photo of your n/s inner wing I may be able to talk you through it.

I'll pm you my details and if you give me a call we can talk about it further.

Hi all,

this is now resolved, with the kind efforts of srhutch and Z4coupebeaver.

I installed the harness and switch assy and test drove it this afternoon, and it works fine.

For anybody who has this problem in the future, the IVM is the electronic power distribution box just in front of the electronic box, and the plug X60192 is the inb'd upper 42 pin one, on my car 2.5i se 2007 it is grey.

The confusion is mostly down to BMW's awful installation instructions, and their illustration clearly showing the wire connected to the DME (EEC) where on my n52 engined model this is not the case.

Cheers John.
