I've now added as many pics back in as I can, as attachments. However 10 is the maximum I can add, so I have a had to lose 1 or 2.

I hope that helps, especially identifying the wire you need to connect into.
Many thanks

How to Wire in a Dash Cam

Post by Danny_gartside » Mon Oct 09, 2017 8:20 pm

I'm about to fit a nextbase dash cam in the same location but I want a permanent live up there as the camera goes to sleep when there is no ignition but wakes up if some dingbat bumps you... It just keeps the battery back up topped up.

So the question is, is there a live feed up there
If I'm not Zedding i'll probably be KTMing

Not sure personally, but the "clowns nose" does constantly blink so I assume that's always live?

I haven't read all of the above, but when I installed my dash cam in my old e85, the camera constantly drained from the battery. So whilst I was using the car back and forth to work, everything was cool. As soon as I was off sick for 3 days, the battery was totally dead. Just a heads up.

Is the interior light always live ?
Drop the roof, lock the car and leave for a few minutes to settle. Then reach in (without setting off the alarm) and try switching the light on. If it lights up, then yes, there's a permanent live up there. If not no.

A lot of switches isolates on a convertible when locked to stop people reaching in and turning things on that may then drain the battery.

Superb write up and instructions. Just installed my dash cam following this. Very neat and tidy install.

My 4 wires with plug on the end wasn't connected to anything so I guess no rain sensor. Wired it up anyway but no power. Need to investigate the interior light option. Ran out of time today. Any pointers anyone?

Cheers.

I will try to connect my dash cam over the weekend and don't have rain sensor as well. If you manage to find correct wire, please can you post a picture here which one I should connect to?

Thanks

I fitted my camera before i saw this guide :headbang:
I wired into the interior light, soldering onto the circuit board. Very easy to do and the camera stays live for about 30 minutes after the door is locked.

The light has a permanent positive feed and a switched negative. This is not an issue for the 5v converter and there’s plenty of room to fit the converter with some double sided tape.
