E85 amp blown

Post by Tommy H » Sun Sep 02, 2012 10:03 pm

Hi,

I really hope someone can shed some light on this for me. I bought my 54 plate z4 about 6 weeks ago and love it but ever since I bought it the sterio has never produced sound. I was told it only needed reprogramming. I looked in the boot to find that the amp was water damaged. I have sorted the water issue out but need some advice on the amp. I bought a matching amp off eBay which the seller assured me was a working part but after getting it installed and reprogrammed it still doesn't work the garage felt that the amp is still at fault. I'm not sure where to go with this now does anyone know where there is a amp for sale as a brand new one is £400. The head unit lights up fine could the issue be with anything else?

Any advice would be much appreciated as I'm tearing my hair out now

Have you checked there is a power supply at the amp?

If anyone has a pin out diagram for the amp that would help

Checked all the fuses? It's possible water ingress into the electrics caused a short and popped the fuse. I don't know if the same fuse would power something else.

I had the same problem with amp going and it was water getting into the boot, especially when car parked with nose up.

See reason here: viewtopic.php?t=76538

Although it doesn't explain why I only get water coming in on right hand side and high up, above the wheel arch and below the parcel shelf.

Haven't checked those posts, but have you checked the vent behind the bumper cover?

Yeah I sealed up the vents on both sides with tile and roof sealant, its leak free now.
