Original (?) iPod Lead

Post by Ellardo » Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:50 pm

Had the car for just over a week 2006 E85 (pictures soon) and wanted to install an Aux lead but very surprised to spot an iPod connector lead at the top right hand side of the glovebox.

Extended lead & plugged in iPhone, got a message on phone saying something along the lines of "unsupported device, interference to be expected, blah blah" clicked okay but did not get any music out through the (10 speaker) stereo.

Tried another phone and 2nd gen iPod, but no luck.

Wondering which button(s) I should be pressing on the headunit ? pressing MODE switches from radio to inbuilt CD to 6xCD & back to radio & so on, but no AUX.

If I eject CDs & press MODE only Radio/No CD/No magazine appears !

Also wondering if lead is possibly wonky as it sometimes (?) mutes iPhones/iPod when plugged in.

Don't know if this is an original item as AUC salesman at BMW was pretty hopeless.

Original (?) iPod Lead

Thanks for your reply.

Tried to tune in on all wavebands, autoscan and manual scan on 2 iPhones and 2 iPods without any luck.

The message I sometimes get on the iPhone is Image
I then lose the volume control and the in-built phone speaker mutes - which I think means that the car is trying to control the volume, but I can't connect.

Please tell me:-
What frequency does your radio pick up on ?
Do you use an iPod or an iPhone?
Can you select tracks/control volume using the car's controls ?
Does yours also re-charge ?

Any more help & assistance would be most welcome :-)

Please tell me:-

88.0 FM

Do you use an iPod or an iPhone?
iphone 3Gs iOS 5 & Ipod touch iOS 5 both fine they also worked fine on other iOS before 5

Can you select tracks/control volume using the car's controls ?
No have to use the device

Does yours also re-charge ?

lets say raido 1 is playing as soon as i plug the cable into iphone/ipod i get static noise untill i tune in to 88.0
I also get a black screen with a yellow triangle saying charging not supported but not an issue.

Took your advice, he says that it was an OEM BMW interface kit.

He had it disconnected to allow the re-connection of the 6xCD changer.

I removed it at the weekend (it's part no is 65 11 0411 92) and replaced it with a home made AUX lead, thanks to sk93 http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic ... 31&t=15087

So now can have iPod & CDs, just need to sort out iPod charging.

Thanks for all replies.
