Grom installation

Post by Blasfazer » Thu Jan 10, 2019 11:36 am

Hello!
I have install a Grom bt3 behind the radio, a radio cd business, no nav, no charger, no ipod and everithig is fine but (ironic mode on) a small detail, I hear nothing, I know is a small detail but I just would like to hear the calls and the music.
The support service from Grom did tell me that I should go to a BMW dealer to programe the cd charger as the grom functions as a emulator.
Anyone with the same problem had a differnt solution?
Is this posible to be done on my own, what should I need?
Thanks in advance
Regards

Maybe a silly question, but have you pressed the MODE button ? It should cycle through radio, CD, CD Changer/GROM.

Yes, I go through each, when on the radio it does sound but not the bt music or the phonecalls although it appears the info on the display of the radio.
I will put some pics of the installation to see if someone can tell me if I did something wrong

That doesn't look like GROM cabling

Looks like the BMW-S. I always use the BMW-T connecting cable which connects the GROM to the CD Changer end of the existing cabling looms. It has plug and play connectors so no trying to get individual pins and wires connected.

I have had a GROM act weird - it would show up on the radio display but not function fully. It was because of a faulty connector cable.

I would start by checking all the connections are secure and connect to the correct pin. Also the GROM should connect to the head unit instead of the CD changer cabling, not in parallel to existing cabling.

There's something up. Your photo shows your radio displaying TEL in the left corner. I think your phone is connecting via the car's built-in bluetooth, and not via the GROM.

When the radio connects to the GROM it displays CDC (the GROM is a CD changer emulator, so the radio thinks it is talking to a CD Changer).

In this case CDC is for CD Changer, 4 is playlist 4 on the iPod plugged into the GROM, and Gary Numan is doing his thing.

Thanks NickDE for the follow up. On my phone it appears the bluetooth paired with the grom car device, but if it looks diferent to what you have in your car it might be because something it is not properly installed or because as the grom support said I have not activated the cd changer.
I will take the car soon to a BMW dealer to see if the second issue is the solution.
